Hello Everyone,
I am a student Nursing in NJ, i will graduate in May 2014 (yay! finally!). It is quite possible that i will move to Syracuse, NY after graduation and I was wondering how much can I get in Syracuse are at the beginning of my career, also how hard is it to get a job at an entry level up there? are there jobs in peds or ob easy to get into? this are the areas that i am the most interested in, but of course i wont be picky. Just want to get a rough idea how it is over there, and while looking at sites like indeed etc i am not sure i am getting it. Not sure how accurate it is. so i hope to hear from you guys!
thanks for your help, i would really appreciate it!

Lots of jobs, no glut of nurses here. Link to local paper: Syracuse Job Search and Employment Opportunities â€" Syracuse.com
Hope you like snow, I live north of Syracuse, but commute there for work. Welcome if you decide to move here.

There is still a shortage of nurses in most smaller cities.
Most hospitals are training facilities or have relationships with RN programs to hire their new grads. It might be a bit harder to get into one of the hospitals if you don't have connections, but a little experience can get you in in the future.
I think most RN jobs are $20/hr and up, this is just an estimate. Also, don't let the numbers scare you. Syracuse has a very low cost-of-living.

I didn't work as a nurse there, but I worked at Upstate for a few months in administration and I can tell you that they were definitely hiring nurses. This was in 2012. I HATED Syracuse with a passion though- depending on your age/where you are originally from it may not work so well for you. For me moving NYC to Syracuse was a huge mistake and I moved back to the city only 8 months later. Thank god. lol.
