Hey all!
I currently work on a busy orthopedic floor with ~5 months of experience. I like working days, I love my coworkers and management but I want to switch to nights for shift diff. I have no issue sleeping during the day. My question is: how do I ask my manager about the switch? What is the most professional approach?
Thanks to all who reply!

Just ask her. Start with asking the procedure for requesting a shift change. If she's unwilling to switch you to straight nights, ask for the requirements for switching to nights. Some employers want you to have a year of experience, others will put anyone who wants nights on nights immediately. Good luck.
Perfect! Thanks so much, I'll wait a little while longer and speak to my manager about switching to nights.

I just switched from days to nights in January. I simply told my manager that it would fit my lifestyle better at the moment. There was an open position, and I moved into it in less than a month. I think in general that management is used to this type of request. I have worked both shifts, but at this time I prefer nights for my life.
