SWIC Nursing Program Summer 17

Published

Hello everyone. Who all applied for the summer 17 program? Do anyone have any information about the DET exam? How is the nursing program at SWIC?

Hello RNTaylor1 - I applied for SWIC 2017. DET exam was a bit of a bear. Math is not hard but the English is difficult. The reading comp part really sucks because the passages are BORING and hard to focus on. Good luck!!

I have applied as well. My experience with the DET is in line with others - the math section is easy, the english section is tough. Best of luck!

I've also applied for this summer. I took my DET today. English is just terrible! I have a total of 18 pts now, that number scares me, wish it were a pt or two higher.

Congrats on being done with the test! I agree, the English section was very frustrating. I actually ended up with zero for the English, which is so embarrassing and leaves me with 19 points when I had hoped for 21 points.

They say it usually is 17-18 for the cutoff, correct? So you should make it but I know the uncertainty is a killer!

I got a zero on English too, it was terrible. Generally it's 17 to 17-1/2 I think. Last year, which was not typical, was 16 (i missed last summer by 1 point!!)...if I had a couple more, I'd feel more confident. I'd like to think I would be safe, but it's too close to the border line. I think you'll be fine with 19 for sure.

Well, I'm glad to know I'm not the only one to get zero on the English! I've easily passed many a reading comprehension test, not sure how I couldn't even come up with a D on this one. I foolishly used the extra time I had to double check my math which didn't need it.

Finers crossed we both make it! This wait is painful!

How do they come up with 1/2 points? They start sorting by GPA or what?

I'm honestly not sure. I've been on a previous year they took 17-1/2 pts. Doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I applied to the program as well. The DET thoroughly sucked and I'm glad I got it out of the way. Does anyone know where most of the clinicals are held?

Also, is anyone here planning on taking additional courses besides the nursing courses? I'm planning on taking Calculus 1 and 2 but I'm not sure if that would be a good decision stress level wise.

Bbaam, Did you take your exam on January 19th?? That's the day you posted and the day I took my exam as well! I spoke with a fellow DET test taker afterwards so that's why I'm curious.

I'm not taking any other classes, all of my requirements are finished besides the nursing classes. I want to put 100% of my study into nursing. I also work and have 3 kids, so that'll be enough lol

im not sure on the clinicals. I'm sure we'll do either St E's or Memorial. I think we do psyc @ Gateway, and I'm pretty sure we do a children's hospital. Not totally sure though.
