swabbing off iv ports or saline locks before hooking up fluids

Published

I have to confess there were times I didn't have an alcohol swab in my pocket and have hooked up the fluids anyway. I would never do that again. I would take the time to go get the alcohol swab

If ever I am in a room without an alcohol wipe and am tempted not to use one, I remember when my husband was getting chemo...he had a port, and I was an absolute vigilante about seeing that it was cleansed and accessed properly (although we had wonderful nurses and I never had to say a thing). :D I lived in fear of him getting some sort of infection.

Then I remember that someone loves this patient as much as I love my husband, and I walk out and get a daggone alcohol wipe. :)

LOL, they are the one who starting the "popping boils" thread!! :rotfl:

NurseCard: I had scrolled thru and didn't see your post. Absolutely. As I remember there was a theme of "guilt" associated in that thread as well...:confused:. Perhaps the OP need to consult her clergy/priest instead of a Nursing forum? i am sensing lots of Issues.. Just my opinion.
