Hi everyone!! I applied to Southern Westchester Boces and I am scheduled to take my entrance exam next Thursday. I am looking for anyone who has attended or has recently been accepted to the school. Or even anyone who knows anything about the test and scores needed in order to get accepted. I'm getting very nervous about the exam and any advice would be appreciated. I am curious to know how students are accepted - what scores are they looking for? Thank you!
Alicia, did you receive a letter in the mail yet? It has information about the assignment. Once you receive that letter, you have to email the program coordinator so that she can forward you the assignment. Right now, shes on vacation untill July 20th so you won't receive anything until after that date. Unless you want me to forward them to you...
Danielle, I am very nervous about starting the program. I didn't take the prep course for the entrance exam. I studied like two straight weeks before the exam. I didn't think I was going to get called in for an interview because one of my percentile scores was a 47! I know, I keep saying how I wish orientation was earlier... August 30th is SO far away from now. I am so impatient. I aso keep hearing how intense & hard the program is and that we won't have time for anything.... but its a sacrifice we will have to make for 10 months and I'm sure it will go by so fast. Did you get your physical done yet?!
Hello Wonder Woman, Danielle, both Alicias and everyone else cograts to u all:yeah:. My name is Gigi, i have been readinng all u ladies notes and all the feelings of nervousness and anxiety u guys expressed, i think i have it ten times worse. i took my exam June 11th, I have my interview on THURSDAY. Can anyone give me any advise please a.s.a.p I really would appreciate it :).
hi guys, alicia send me your email and i will send you over the homework, unless someone else already has sent it to you, it is not a big deal just medical prefixes and suffixes. gigi1 for your interview on thursday, just relax here are the questions they asked me:
1. why do you want to be a nurse-(just don't say because you are a nice person and like helping people they want a bit more substance in your answer-express interests in the field that and of thing)
2. they asked me if i knew what an lpn does- check out ny states scope of practice for lpn
3. they asked where i would like to be in the future with my nursing career
4. how i planned on studying and if i had study habits
that's all they asked me the other questions came off of what my answers were so i hope this helps.
dress professional, first impressions are key, i wore a nice pairof pants and a button down and vest to mine. my interview was in april and i got my letter 1 week after the interview.
mr. kaplan did my interview and he was really great! i have not yet gotten my physical i have it next week. does anybody know what color scrubs we can wear? one of the sites is having a sale thought i could grab some now(they have petite length so no hemming for me!!)anyway i am freaking out and super nervous but talking to you guys is really helping alleviate my fears it will be nice to see friendly faces at orientation!! has anyone gone to boces for other programs like the cma or cna?
Gigi (thats what i call my daughter lol) There are a whole list of questions posted on this thread to the tee of what they ask at interview. It helped me alot to prepare my answers and be quick in my response. study them and know them. just dont be robotic with ur answers. Trust me, be comfortable and u will do fine. its ok to be nervous, just take a deep breath.
Danielle, do you happen to know any info about the program... for example how the classes are split up?
Not sure what color scrubs we will be wearing for clinicals... probably white. But I know at orientation we will have an opportunity to buy scrubs, stethoscopes, and other supplies... also, that's when we will receive our books. (I tried calling BOCES for a list of the books that we will need but they refused to tell me anything and told me that I had to wait until orientation. It sucks... I really wanted to get a head start).
I called Boces today and asked about the scrubs and they told me any color was fine(hope they are right), I have no idea how the classes are split up, i have been trying to get some info but Boces is tight-lipped about it. All the woman told me was everything will be explained at orientation:confused:. I wanted to get a head start on stuff like supplies and all that so I am just going to grab the usual spiral notebooks and such I really wish orientation was sooner the wait is killing me!!
I know, I definitely agree... I wish it was sooner. Everything has been a waiting process... waiting for our scores, waiting for a call for an interview, and then waiting for an acceptance letter.. and now waiting for orientation. LOL. Even if we could get some info from students who recently graduated from the program would be nice... But I can't seem to find anyone on here. They are the ones who can really tell us what to expect, what books and supplies we should get... etc etc.
I agree 110%! Maybe we should start a thread asking for former BOCES students? I took the prep course and some of the students came in to speak to us but, basically all they said was that the day program was really hard and if you wanted to do the day program you had to be dedicated to the process, that it is doable but to be prepared to work hard. I just think that even if they had a quick orientation day just 1 day now so they could let us know about supplies and answer some questions it would help put all our minds at ease a bit, but i guess we just have to wait and see.

Hi Alicia, SO nice to meet you! My name is Danielle, I am so excited and very nervous about the program, I began the "homework" assignment last week and I think that is when it hit me!! I have heard how hard the program is but now that it is almost here I must admit I am a bit intimidated!! I really wish orientation was earlier! did you take the prep course? How are you feeling about the program? Nervous?
