Hi everyone!! I applied to Southern Westchester Boces and I am scheduled to take my entrance exam next Thursday. I am looking for anyone who has attended or has recently been accepted to the school. Or even anyone who knows anything about the test and scores needed in order to get accepted. I'm getting very nervous about the exam and any advice would be appreciated. I am curious to know how students are accepted - what scores are they looking for? Thank you!
I know you took a different test than I but I am wondering if they told you what score you "needed" to get in. I took the TEAS yesterday for PNW Boces after already taking it in October. I was told that my 74% was for the delayed acceptance and that 78% was for early acceptance. So I when and took the test again yesterday and while I am there the admissions lady said that Reading you needed 80% or better and math 50% or better with an overall of over 70%. After not knowing any science questions I was completely stressed the whole way home. That is until I checked my October score which were... Reading 90% Math 75% with the overall 74%. So why did I have to take the test again??? I wonder if I will get an interview phone call. I am sooooo nervous!!!!
The way the test is graded for SW boces is different than the TEAS. The TEAS is graded out of a percent but the C-Net test that we took is graded out of a percentile score. Basically, our scores were compared to a group of students' scores. If we scored in or above the 50th percentile (meaning that we scored better than 50 percent of the students) or above on each section (math, language ability & reading), then we get called in for an interview. However, even if we score above the 50th percentile in two sections but score slightly lower in the other section (like 47).. we still may get called. Take me for example, my scores were 54, 47, and 89 and I still got called in for an interview and received my acceptance letter two days ago! Not sure how it works at Putnam boces. Good luck!
Stephanie, I didn't default on the loan, I just owe money on them.. I don't have to pay them back until December. However, I didn't include on my Boces application that I attended WCC because my transcripts weren't that great and I didn't want that to screw up my acceptance. I'm scared that they will find out so I'm stearing clear of financial aid or loans.
My husband has been looking for a job for so long and has had no luck. He got laid off from his job in January and hasn't been able to find a job since. I make enough money to cover the tuition payment each month but there's no way I would work full-time and risk failing.
Thanks! Yeah there are 4 sections on the TEAS Reading, Math, Science and English. Well we were told AFTER the Reading and Math sections that those were the ones that counted and Science and English are used to boost your overall %. So annoyed. They could have told us that even though I know I did well in Reading and Math. It messed me us for science though. I couldn't concentrate at all!!! Ionic bond...what is that?? That's how bad my concentration was messed up LOL Good Luck to all of you. If I get called I need to decide FT (10 months) or PT (2 years during the summer too)
Why do you want to be a nurse?
Would you be interested in doing the day or night program? Why do you chose the day program (or night program)?
Tell me a time where you experienced something difficult and how did you overcome it?
Tell me the most difficult decision you ever had to make?
What is your greatest weakness?
Who will be supporting you while you attend school?
What does a Licensed Practical Nurse do?
Do you plan on working while attending school?
Do you have any other commitments (for example childcare)?
Do you have children? (they're really not supposed to ask this question..)
What qualities do you have that will help you progress in the program?
These are the questions that I was asked. I'm not sure if they switch up the questions or not. I was lucky & only interviwed by one person, and met the program coordinator at the end of the interview. Be sure to ask questions... like what the Nclex pass rate is & what orientation consists of (if you have no other questions to ask, plus I'm sure we'd all like to know! lol).
Good luck!! You'll do fine.... I was SO nervous @ my interview and couldn't even talk... and then I just said "I'm sorry I'm just so nervous" and the wonderful lady who interviewed me said "Its okay, just take a deep breath and relax" and she then offered me candy, lol.
