Hi guys just wanna ask do you massage the site on or after when injecting sustenna IM for schizophrenia? Some books teach us never massage an IM site. Just wondering cause I just saw a co staff of mine massaged the site, was that ok?

Massaging the site after the injection does help with the pain:

As far as there being any contraindications in rubbing a Sustenna shot...I don't know. You could ask the manufacturer or check the literature that comes with the injection.
Thank you i was quite worried for my patient after i gave sustenna though she wasnt complaining the bruise was really obvious

I don't know the answer yes or no definitively, I would hesitate to massage the site for Sustenna or Consta. They are designed to deliver Tue med over 4 weeks for Sustenna and 2 weeks for Consta. I would be worried that massaging might do something to the extended release mechanism. But that's just me. And ya, I get complaints with Sustenna more than any other about pain.

Invega is reserved for our extremely psychotic/uncooperative/potentially combative patients. That stuff is expensive. And from our tax dollars where I work.
Massage the site? As the once great Sweet Brown said, "I ain't got time for that!"
We're grateful enough that the patient momentarily let us even get the injection in.....
