1 hour south of me. I have several friends at WSU right now and one said her classes have been empty with so many people out sick, the other has been out for over a week. This could get ugly... H1N1 in the dorms?! In the greek system (HUGE at this college)?! I can't even imagine being a college student missing 5+ days of class... when class has only been in session for 2 weeks. Ugh. Get better Cougs! (I'm an alumni, btw)
I have never heard of sleeping porches. Do you mean like this?

The ones I saw were big rooms with bunk beds. Many bunkbeds. I don't know if all the houses worked like this, but in my friend's house they had one person with the glorious job of waking everyone up. You give them your wake time, they wake you up. They rotated this lovely duty. They were also usually dark and cool.
I'm sure Spotty can tell you more. My knowledge is just what I saw. lol

It's basically a large room with bunkbeds (usually enough to sleep 30+ people). As far as I know, every sorority on campus had them (maybe some of the fraternities too). The purpose being that if some emergency, such as a fire, happens at night everyone is in one area of the house and can be evacuated...in addition, if rescuers need to go in and look for people they know where to go and don't have to worry about getting people from a million different rooms. We also had to keep the windows open at all times to help airflow through the room.....practically everyone had electric blankets because the town I went to college in got COLD during the winter.

Ahhh sleeping porches. I had a few friends in sororities and the idea of sleeping porch still freaks me out. HAHA
I lived in the dorms for a year and a half and I personally know how things spread through there. I had conjunctivitis (dunno if you were there the year that was a huge outbreak) and all kinds of other random illnesses that went through the dorms. It got better when I didn't have a roommate, so I'm convinced she was bringing it all home. =) I can't even imagine H1N1 in the dorms.
