Survive as Cna in nursing school?

Nursing Students CNA/MA

Published

Currently I am doing my pre reqs to get into nursing school and am wanting to move out of my mother's house, whose currently in nursing school. Shes been an amazing motivation and Im watching my sisters while shes in school and work. I really want experience before i start nursing school, for some background, and to know how to be a good nurse.

A lot of people advise not to work while in nursing school, and to stay in school and live with parents. But, ive watched my mom go through lpn school and now through bsn school. I have no kids of my own. And in general, I really want to grow and do something with my life. The rent here is cheap, good apartments around 650. And as a cna id be payed 10/hr. Any advice?

I know you want to be independent but really, the best option is to stay at your mom's until you graduate. Nursing school is hard and having the luxury of not having to work sounds like a dream to me. Being able to focus on school 100% should guaranteed all A's. Working as a CNA and living on your own will mean you'll likely have to work full time.

Just as a warning, $10/hr sounds great, but doesn't go as far as you might think. My husband and I pay &650 for our apartment, but I would never be able to afford it on my own. Once you take into account electric, water, internet, any other luxuries...you'll be living check to check. If possible, stay with your mother! I wish I had gone back to school while I was still living at home, work and school are hard to balance.

Stay at home with your mom, pay rent to her, put at least 15% of your earnings into a savings account, and get straight A's.

Studies show that students who work earn better grades than those who do not work, but your grades MUST be your first priority.

I also agree with everyone else in that you should stay at home. Nursing school is ridiculous competitive, at least in Florida, so you will want to have amazing grades and extra curricular activities on your record.
