This month's survey Question:Do you leave work at your scheduled time on a regular basis?
Home care. Report off to oncomming nurse or parent. Of course that requires one of them to be present!
My agency has been so lame as to tell me "we forgot to get somebody to relieve you."
What? How can they forget? Oh I;m not even going into it! I'll ruin my nights sleep!
Dixiedi... wonder what would happen if you said "no problem. I'll bring them over to your house.". They wouldn't forget again in a hurry :) ha ha ha
I am wondering is everyone getting paid OT? I certainly hope so. A day in lieu is nice but SHOW ME THE MONEY. has a better ring to it.
Whilst everyone here sounds like they are trying to be martyrs let me let you in a little secret. You aren't going to like it. NO-one cares. you can work 12 hour shifts 6 days a week without OT for 10 years. When you are gone (sickness, injury, burn out) no-one will remember your name. Or if they do they wont care. The more you give the more they take. What's more if you try to stand your ground now people will wonder what is wrong with you and let you know that your attitude sucks.
Read on another post. Document Document Document. That is... write down every minute that you work unpaid OT, paid OT. That way you will see how much extra you are putting in. Take that to the boss when you want more moolah.
in the facility i work now...we were told...commanded...that we should clock out for breaks even if we didn't have one (too much work load...50 residents, 1 nurse) and that we should clock out...to the minute...even if we have to stay longer to finish paper works. our dns even told us that if we can't finish our work to just pass it on to the next shift.

I believe it's illegal to be doing what your managers are telling you to do. You have to be paid for the hours you're there WORKING. It's falsifying records to be saying you're getting breaks or working after you've clocked out.
As a new worker at a hospital where we are very busy but whose Medicare reimbursement is WAY!! down, we were told that we have to clock out pretty much as possible on time. NO, or very little, overtime. Is it common to be able to clock out later than regular clock out time? If anyone clocks out later, they are talked to, etc.
How long do these themes go for?

Please take a minute to take our yes/no survey question at the bottom of the https://allnurses.com/ homepage.
Also, please feel free to reply to this topic to post any comments that you may have on the topic.
Sorry, I didn't take the survey. I was basically fired and told I wasn't any good as a nurse (35+ yrs in the field) for doing my work and leaving late. My replacement on my nights off leaves on time - does in 12 hrs what I did in 8 and question if all the same work gets done. Talk about fair??

90% of time. Some days I stay cuz someone else is gonna be late. I am able to get my work done before I leave most of the time.
