Hello Vermont, quiet bunch eh. Looking for some relocation info. anyone?
Sorry that it took me so long to respond. I actually am in an accelerated nursing program at SUNY Binghamton because Vermont did not have any accelerated programs. I am not sure how hard it is to get into UVM but I know that the LPN programs are pretty tough to get into. Overall, our public universitities don't have a lot of state funding because of our small population so they are largely funded at least UVM but out of state tuitions, which thankfully we have lots of kids from out of state wanting to go to UVM :)!!
I will be moving back to Vermont in August so I will let you know about the job situation.
Hey Vermonster! I'm thinking about applying to nursing school in Vermont. Do you know how the nursing schools are there? Are they difficult to get into? Are there a ton of people applying to them like here on the West Coast where there are just hundreds and hundreds of people applying and it's nealy impossible to get in? What is the cost of living like there?I am originally from Maryland but I live out in Oregon now. My mom was a camp nurse at a camp in Vermont so I spent a few summers up there as a kid and I remember loving it. So, I've always had Vermont in the back of my mind as a place I'd want to live.
I did research University of Vermont and it seems pretty expensive but I think there's another nursing school-Southern Vermont College maybe ?

That would be great. I am considering moving to Vermont or Maine and have to say I am disappointed in the responses I have gotten about the areas and possible jobs.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi!
I am a native Vermonter about to enter an LPN program... I could tell you that in terms of looking for jobs, each hospital on our area, and especially Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, has a website and on-line job postings. There are also organizations like the Visiting Nurses Association, Professional Nursing Service, and other Home Health Care Agencies. The BUrlington Free Press, the local paper, is also on-line and has a great classified section so you could look to see the price and availability of rental or other real estate. The alternative newpaper in our area is called "Seven Days" and is also on-line-- I think at seven days vt. com, or something like that. It will give you entertainment and cultural listings as well as quirky articles. I hope that this helps.... and what other kind of information are you looking for? I will be glad to send along whatever I can dig up. I personally really love living here... the cost of living is high, but the safety and the quality of schools for my child are a large factor in my wanting to be here. :)
Take care,
Sarah

VTC has a LPN program in Brattleboro- and has an RN program at its main campus.
NH Tech in Claremont is just across the state line- they have LPN ADN, and BSN programs
UVM is a 4 year program- has mostly fresh out of highschool enrollment, most tech colleges have a higher ratio of "older" students.
There are many more hospitals in VT than was listed above, also if you live in the mid part of the state, DHMC is just across the state line in NH. DHMC also has Cheshire Medical Center, just over the MASS and VT boarders in NH, Springfield, Brattleboro, they have hospitals, there is a VA hospital in White River Junction..
Cost of living is pretty low, but property taxes are high, fuel oil for heat is high, and pay isnt the highest...
