suprapubic cath change....need encouragement

Today I did a suprapubic cath change...i have seen many done previously, but have never physically done one myself...i was nervous thru the whole procedure, I was able to get the cath in and inflated, however I did not get return.....There was a small amount of blood noticed around the stoma, and a little in the cath after I flushed it.....However I did have clear yellow urine in the leg bag after 10 mins. I guess I am just nervous since it was my first time hands on by myself doing this, and no one has said of feeling a pop when it is inserted. I just want some feedback on this...

It's been awhile, but I had a pt with a supra-pubic cath and I would have to send him to the VA for reinsertion when it needed changing or he pulled it out.

that must have been scary doing it the first time. unfortunately, i am not allowed to change supra-pubic as an rn in my facility. my unit manager told me only doctor can change it so we send patient out to er for emergency or the urologist come to my ltc to change it.

I agree at my facility only the urologist can change suprapubic caths.
