Supportive gym shoes

Published

I have a question about supportive gym shoes. I will be working at a hospital and I know that I will do a lot of walking. Is there a specific brand that you recommend? I do not like the Dansko type shoe so I am looking for gym shoe recommendations. Thank you!

Go to a shoe store that can do a Gait analysis. Every brand has different models of sole. For instance, I supinate my right foot and was using an arch support thinking it was helping, once I had my gait analyzed a more neutral bottom was the ideal for me. The moment I changed the type of sole I had I noticed a HUGE difference. it doesn't matter the brand of gym shoe anymore - just that the bottom is the right one for me.

(On that note, I purchase gym shoes about every 6-9 months because I am a very active person and really go to town on them with milage/impact. I prefer I prefer: Reebok, Brooks, Asics (in that order) but basically whoever has the best sale price is what I'm purchasing.

Agree,

Every brand accommodates every foot type now. Get a gait assessment. It's a bit like asking us what glasses are best for you....

Everyone is different and I hear a few people swear by brooks and asics, but I personally feel like they're too heavy. I'm wearing nike vapormax air flyknit now and like them a lot but they're still pretty new.

Go to a running store and get fitted for a good shoe. It will cost you, but it will be worth it. Keep track of sales and buy a second pair of the same shoe when they’re on sale, and rotate them. It makes your shoes last longer and stay supportive longer.
