Support group for CRNE June 2011

World Canada CRNE

Published

Hello everyone,

I realize when I had to write my nursing exam how much pressure I experienced about the whole thing. I wrote mine in June 2010 and passed in first attempt but still remember when I walked out the exam, I was not sure what would be the result.

The purpose of this thread is supporting those nursing students who are planning to write their CRNE in upcoming June. Students, please feel free to share your concerns and questions. Nurses please support those students with tips for study.

Just couple of reminders before we get started:

1. Please do not discuss specific questions or any content tested in CRNE.

2. Please read other threads for more information as well. Other threads give you valuable information and be smart and take them into your advantage.

3. Please stay on topic.

4. Please use proper grammar and spelling.

Thank you all.

Simple steps to pass I found in Kaplan book,

Step 1: Read what is the Topic of the question what is being asked, pay attention to key words e.g. FIRST, MOST, PRIORITY etc.

Step 2: Read all answers, choose one of the relevant Assessments before you choose an Implementation

Step 3: Apply Maslow, meet physical needs before psychosocial needs.

Step 4: Apply ABC's, prefer answere in the same sequence first Airway, than breathing and finally circulation

If none of the above works go to step 5

Step 5: Determine the Outcome of the Answer (is it a desired outcome?) than choose an answere.

I bet anybody can pass using steps given above, you only needed 56% in June 2011 exam, You have the knowledge go use these steps and don't stress.

One more thing, the Time: make sure you are keeping the pace 50 questions every one hour. That means 1 hours past you are at 50, 2nd hour passed you are at 100, 3rd hour passed you are 150 and last hour keep track of time to finish. You will be able to finish on time because last 100 questions are not scenario questions.

Good luck, don't stress, anyone can do it.

i agree with using kaplan book. Did my exam in june 2011 passed 1st attempt.

I am an IEN used kaplan book. The first 50-70 pages teaches you how to tackle questions with and without required knowledge. I also used Mosby and CRNE prep guide. I pray you pass next time. Stay positive.

I think it was 62.2 % passing mark this time, as 20 questions out of 200 were experimental which are not counted towards your score whether you answered them right or wrong. Thus, 112/180 was the passing score. Therefore, when you study for your exam, do as many practice questions as you can, and strive to get around 80 % on them. All the study tips that were given before are extremely valuble and useful. I believe that studying hard is not enough but studying smart by applying all the strategies is definately going to pay off. Also, what very important is to identify your problem, what you most struggled with during the exam. If you know what you need to work on , then it will be easier for you. Friend of mine did not finish the exam, and left a lot of questions blank. She had a chance to pass if she could finish all the question. She failed only by couple of marks. So she knows that her major problem is time management, and she is going to work on that.

Thank you all for your support and strategies on tackling this exam. I am deeply moved by all of your posts and words of encouragement. I will try my best on this final attempt in October. I will keep all your advice in mind as I prepare again.

By the way, I'm from Calgary.

Thank you!

Congratulations to all of you that passed!

To those that weren't so fortunate, please keep studying & don't let this one exam defeat you.

I'm taking the CRNE for the first time in October. Quite worried since I'm an IEN but I did pass CCA a few months ago which was similar to the CRNE prep guide questions.

Several people mentioned they used the "Kaplan book" - can you guys please specify what it's called? I can't seem to find a Kaplan book for CRNE, just for NCLEX and nursing school entrance exams.

Thanks for all the tips and advice on this thread - it really helps!!

I was unsuccessful in June, 2010 CRNE and failed by one mark while left the exam not being able to finish it completely. So I can talk to you from my experience.

All the cues are given here by these nice people are valuable, indeed and I just want to add a few more things that hopefully help.

I do agree wit anything that helps you with strategies to tackle the exam; anything from Kaplan to advises here. Just remember that if you're going to use Kaplan strategy, only focus on exam taking part. Preparing yourself with an American prep guide for Canadian exam is like shooting yourself in the foot. One of the factors that made me actually fail beside time management in my first attempt was that I though any prep guide would help and started very details study like what you see in Kaplan.

If you're going to use Kaplan decision making tree in CRNE, you need to be very good at it and very quick. The time pressure in CRNE is much higher than NCLEX, in my opinion.

And do questions questions and questions without going into too much of details. And if you really struggle with contents, read them right away while going through the rationals.

And as everyone says here: be positive and do not lose hope. Remind yourself everyday that you CAN do this. And you will.

Good luck

thank you everyone for the advice and support much needed. i will study hard for my exam.

which keplan book is advised here can anyone explain the details please?

where is my mail? !!!!!!

I hope today is the day

Please do not loose hope, you are almost there, attend the sept prep classes and attempt as many mock exams as you can. I found the mock exams helpful :))
