Supply shortages

Another thread is discussing medication shortages. One of my pet peeves is the almost constant shortages of various supply items. We are always running out of linens, isolation gowns, socks, paper towels, pre-moistened peri-care wipes, chux, gloves . . . it's maddening . . . we complain to our manager and we're told "I'll see what I can do"! Nothing ever happens. It makes us into beggars/thieves because we have to sneak into other rooms to beg for or swipe the supply item, if they happen to have one. If we call central supply, we are told that they restock once a day at 1700 . . . a lot of good that does at 1000!! Grrr!! Does this happen at your workplace??

That's the sign of belt-clinching non-clinical management personnel.

I forgot to add - we're getting rid of soap and shampoo. We're switching to this "all-in-one" bottled crap. These bottles are those little guys (our lotion comes in them) and they are each supposed to last FOUR bed baths.

Supply shortages are often one of the clearest signs that the company is in very dire financial straits! In my experience, it is frequently associated with the organization being put on a 'cash only' basis because vendors aren't getting paid as they should.

Just saying. . .

I work in an itty bitty tiny nursing home and we never have what we need. I waste more time searching for ESSENTIALS than you can imagine! Everything is LOCKED in a room and only the DON has the key! OK, so I can be trusted with the narcotic key, but not the key to the briefs and wipes? Give me a break! Everything and I mean everything is locked in this room. I am ready to flip!
