SUNY Stony Brook On-Line NP Program: NYC Preceptors?

Published

I've read horror stories here on allnurses.com of NP students dropping out of on-line programs due to the very real inability to locate willing preceptors. True? That's why I LOVE allnurses.com and happily pay to be a PREMIUM member every year--the site is invaluable: knowledge is power and helping out one another is contagious...Now, does SUNY Stony Brook have a stable of NPs in NYCity willing to prcept NYC students so that we can....like, actually....graduate?? Thanks P.S. I posted this elsewhere, but because "online" means students can be nationwide (and even worldwide), I am re-posting it here for maximum exposure. Thanks.

hello, i am interested in the cardiac lab, but i know the hours is not feasable for being in NP school. how did you work around the cardiac lab schedule and going to adult NP school

StonyBrook Does not offer an online NP program. THey have a traditional campus program

StonyBrook has BOTH an on-line (i.e., Distance Learning) and a traditional, in-person classroom NP program.

Actually, StonyBrook has BOTH an on-line (i.e., Distance Learning) and a traditional, in-person classroom NP program.

nyforlove...do you attend Stony Brook? I am applying and would love to hear feedback from someone who goes there for their online programs.

I had been accepted to the online NP program at StonyBrook several years ago. You raise a superb question. To that end, I tried to address the issue with StonyBrook and was told that the question was "inappropriate". I gave my admission spot to someone else! With this said, perhaps the person was having a bad day, but I found communication to be very very difficult with the school in general. I suspect that funding is an issue, and I did not take anything personally. I just knew it would not have been a good fit for me.

Again, this was about 5 yrs ago and perhaps you would have a different experience. But if they will not address this with you in some detail, spend your time at a place with preceptors set in place.
