I received a letter of acceptance this week for the online BSN program at Empire State College. They got accredited a few months ago so that is a good thing. DOes anyone else planing to attend Empire State College, and can you give me some feedback about their BSN program if you are currently enrolled?

Would be interested to hear about this program. i live in new york. Is it all online and how did it compare to excelsior's program? Did they accept your credits from other colleges?

How long did the application process take? Do you need your RN license before you can apply?

i was considering this school for a b.s. in health administration but changed my mind. if you google this school you will see that many of the students say that the instructors take a long time to grade papers, hardly ever give feedback, and do not respond to emails. the mentors are also worthless (they all say) and also are hard to get ahold of. i would go to another school. there are many bsn online programs.

keep in mind that the school's representatives often fill out these surveys and pretend to be students.

I graduated ESC in December 2010 - Bachelors degree (Business & Economics). Some professors do grade assignments slowly but I have found 90% of papers are returned within 8-10 days. This is NOT any different than a traditional brick-&-mortar institution. I am returning in September 2011 as a Graduate in their MBA program. I absolutely LOVE Empire and had a great experience... I would be happy to answer any of your questions. I am also a peer tutor and academic coach at ESC. Many of the negative reviews I have read online seem to be written by students that expected an online environment to mean an easy way out. If you are up for a challenge and willing to learn, you will have a wonderful experience - I promise... Good luck to you!
I go to school online now and my papers are graded within a day or 2. my emails are answered promptly and there is free online tutoring available--although I have only used it once or twice. I do well and work very hard.
upstatenygirl - are you also a student @ Empire?
I hear ya... online classes require a LOT of discipline, time management, self teaching skills, etc. I will honestly admit I thought it would be SO easy... like an open book test all the way! I was WRONG... but, I am glad I was wrong. I learned a LOT more than I did going TO classes (attended in-class university for first 2.5 years as a P/T night class student). Most of my papers are graded and returned 2-3 days but some do take a week... I had a problem with one professor though. She took 1 1/2 MONTHS to return assignments. How can I possibly grow and improve if I didn't know how I went wrong on the last assignment? By the time I would get a grade back - 3-4 new papers were submitted... There will always be a bad teacher. That goes for any school!

I don't have a problem with online programs, I plan on doing my Master's in education through a distance learning program. The thing is that with nursing I find it a little difficult. If it's for nurses who are already RN's then that's not too bad, but is this for beginner nurses who need all the clinicals and stuff. Because just like with some of the Master degree programs, people found difficulty setting up their own supervised clinicals.
