Hey guys,
Started my application for Downstate's WHNP for Fall 2023 start. Thought I'd start this thread for all interested and/or applying. I'm in between excitement and anxiety! ? All questions welcome! Any past/current students with advice/opinions? Good luck everyone!
KJK923 said:Hello! Everyone who had an interview, how were the questions? How do you advise we prepare for the interview? Also, was it virtual or in person? And how long did it take for you to hear back about acceptance? The portal shows the deadline extended to March 31, 2023, any idea why?
Hey!
Some of the questions they asked me were: why do you want to be a WHNP? What kind of experience do you have? The rest of the interview time was dedicated to my own questions/concerns, and them assuring that you are well prepared for the program. My advice is to just be yourself, the interview was pretty casual, mostly informative about the program itself. I received a response the day after my interview (interview was done over microsoft teams). Not sure why it was extended. Good luck!
KJK923 said:What was the procedure after acceptance? Do you have a certain time to respond and pay deposit? Did they give you a start date or how the curriculum looks?
You have to pay the acceptance fee as soon as possible. I think it was about $150. Then there is a checklist of other documents you must submit, such as official transcripts, health screening, background check. Most things must be submitted within 7 days of acceptance/offer. I believe they said the start date was end of August. There's is a picture I uploaded of what the curriculum looks like, if you check my previous comments you should see it :).
Hi guys. I'm currently a BSN student graduating next year. My goal is to become an L&D nurse. I am so happy and excited for all of those who got accepted. My ultimate career goal after graduation and NCLEX is to become a whnp. In nyc this is extremely difficult. I wanted to ask, how many years of experience in the healthcare field Post graduation do I need for this program.? Is there anyone here who went straight from BSN to this program?
