SUNY Downstate ABSN 2019-2020

Nursing Students School Programs

Published

I wanted to start a thread about the upcoming application process for SUNY Downstate ABSN. There is a fantastic thread for the previous round of applications last year, and I thought this would be a good forum for us to share any information that we might have about Downstate's admission process as we go through it together. Good luck everyone!!!

@arimon the database you all logged into was the applyyourself one right?(where our application was originally submitted)

Just wanted to make sure I’m not missing anything

Yes that is it! I never saw the email it was in my spam folder

I haven’t received any email yet either ?

I just logged in and checked and it said that I was on the alternative list as well

:(

So frustrating! I want them to know I'm serious about the program lol but if I accept my spot as an alternate and people have been getting waitlisted since February what even are my chances of getting a spot lol

Hello,

As a former waitlisted student, who was admitted very late in the application cycle, I can say there is no drawback in accepting an alternate position. Personally I was making arrangements to attend another school but was pleasantly surprised to be accepted Mid-May. Also, I know several students who were placed on the alternate list and during the next application cycle, their applications were considered very early on and many were admitted. Good luck!

Hey! @Ckp123 did you already have all of your health forms on file when they accepted you? Or did you submit them before you started classes but after you were accepted? Do you have any idea how they pull people off the waitlist! Thanks for any insight you have!!

The wait for this school was redonkulous

@TheSkyIsFalling are you currently on the waitlist or were you?

If you’re accepted off the wait list very late (mid to late May) you have some leeway. It’d be wise to get health forms all fjnished beforehand because you’d need them anyway for other schools. When I went to get mine from my pcp it turned out she went on vacation so I had to scramble. You need your health forms by orientation to get clearance from the school and clinical sites so there is time. As for the waiting list, I’m not sure how many students are on it or what the process looks like but again, this month a lot of students are hearing back from all the schools (a friend of mine just got into NYU yesterday) so there will be some movement in the roster for sure. Just be patient and make contingency plans just in case.

@blessedbutstressed there are no clinicals first semester this year so you don't need to worry about that but yes, may as well get them done ASAP!

@Ckp123 I can imagine calling the admissions office won't help to get an update on Admission status? My supervisors are on their toes waiting for my response on being accepted. Where can I see the health forms on Downstate's site?

I spoke to them this morning. They told me they keep position numbers confidential and can’t tell you and that they will pull people up until the first day of class. So they don’t really give much information
