SUNY Downstate ABSN 2019-2020

Nursing Students School Programs

I wanted to start a thread about the upcoming application process for SUNY Downstate ABSN. There is a fantastic thread for the previous round of applications last year, and I thought this would be a good forum for us to share any information that we might have about Downstate's admission process as we go through it together. Good luck everyone!!!

@Ckp123 I can imagine calling the admissions office won't help to get an update on Admission status? My supervisors are on their toes waiting for my response on being accepted. Where can I see the health forms on Downstate's site?

Most of the info can be found on this link. The health forms info, which applies to accepted/alternate students is on there.

Hello,

As a former waitlisted student, who was admitted very late in the application cycle, I can say there is no drawback in accepting an alternate position. Personally I was making arrangements to attend another school but was pleasantly surprised to be accepted Mid-May. Also, I know several students who were placed on the alternate list and during the next application cycle, their applications were considered very early on and many were admitted. Good luck!

Thank you so much! I feel a little better now. I'm going to stay positive get my health forms submitted this week and hope I get an email.

@eam13008 May I ask where are the health forms that you were going to submit this week? I wasn’t sure where to find SUNY’s specific templates.

I interviewed with you (I think) on April 18th & haven’t heard anything back. Application status still says “forwarded to admissions committee for review.”

I’m trying to stay positive & would like to submit health-related forms while waiting.

@eam13008 @Ckp123 I see the link now to the info for accepted students and health forms! I missed that when looking at this thread but see it now.

Thanks so much for sharing this!!

@Lynda Wilson @Ckp123 I received my decision today- I'm also on the alternate list, however it says I have an outstanding requirement - I'm missing a Sociology/Anthropology Elective II. How can that be? I just doubled checked my application checklist and it's doesn't mention anything about anything missing, nor have I ever received an email about a missing requirement, but there's a note on my letter saying I have to wait at least 5 days for the missing requirement to show up!!!! ?

Did anyone else get an email today about submitting health forms to stay on the alternate list?

@blessbutstressed yes I did. I already gave the forms to my doctor.

It also says to submit updated transcripts...I’m still taking finals and won’t be graduating with my first degree until the Friday before classes will start. So my transcripts aren’t updated yet.

Hi everyone -- I am currently doing research on SUNY downstate accelerated nursing program. This thread was very helpful. I wanted to ask what is the typical class schedule like for this program? What do your weeks look like?

Thank you!

Hi Everyone,

I am interested in the Suny Downstate ABSN program and have a few questions to ask.

1. Can a repeated pre-req be accepted?

2. I did the NLN pre-admission exam, would SUNY downstate accept that instead of the ATI TEAS?

3. Also, How is the class schedule for the ABSN program? Are the class timing flexible, can you choose when to take your classes or is there no options?

Please, I would appreciate it if someone answered my questions! Thank you.

Hello! It's that time of year again when everyone will be starting the admissions process. I suggest starting a thread for the 2020-2021 incoming cohort. I am in the current cohort of graduating class 2020.

There are many changes coming to this program, administration and coursewise. Many accelerated programs are disorganized, but the tuition is unbeatable. Also, the name of SUNY Downstate is very respected.

Any pre-requisite questions should be directed to admissions, they are usually fairly responsive in emails or if you call.

You must take the ATI TEAS, as it is a SUNY Downstate requirement to be considered for admissions, or even an interview.

The class schedule is changing every semester. They may change it again next year. The schedule is designated at the start of the semester, and you do not have the option to choose when to take the classes. Only clinical times are flexible upon self-registration. The summer semester was very intense, but we knew what we signed up for! This fall semester has a bit more free time, but we have more reading to do. The program asks that you be flexible and commit the time for the 15 months. It may be possible for a part time job during the fall/spring months, if you have something flexible enough lined up.

Best of luck,

@Jessica_Spanton @FutureNurse199

There is an open house coming up in October. I suggest attending to tour the school, familiarize with the program, talk to faculty and current students for questions you have.
