SUNY Downstate ABSN Summer 2013

I wanted to start this thread to create some conversation about our application to SUNY Downstate's ABSN program beginning Summer 2013. I've heard a lot of pros and cons about the program and I would like us all to share some of our thoughts! Do any of you have a Bachelor's already? If so what is it in? Where did you take your pre reqs and stuff? What are some of your grades? I took all of my pre-reqs at Suffolk Community College. I received an A in A&P I & II (incl labs), Microbio (incl lab), Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, Developmental Psych, Group Theory/Social Psychology, & English I. I received a B+ in Chemistry and English II. My TEAS V scores are Reading: 91 and Math: 87. I also have my BA from Stony Brook University. Also, I applied to SB last year and did not get accepted to there program. I'm afraid the same thing will happen with Downstate and I do not know what more a prospective student can do! If there are any recent grads of the ABSN program out there please give a shout out! Any advice or opinions will help! Good luck everyone and hopefully we will all be together in the summer!!!!

I applied to NYU, Wagner, Downstate, New Rochelle, Molloy, Beth Israel and am considering York even though I don't know if I can deal with CUNY anymore (I did my undergrad and prereqs and it was a nightmare). Considering LIU but I'm scared off from the horror stories, also considering getting a rush app into Seton Hall (the price point is much higher than I want to deal with). Muhlenberg is my fall back school if all else fails. That's a lot of applications so I'm trying to be patient and not throw in more apps out of desperation (I keep telling myself I can try for spring 2014 if it doesn't work out) but Downstate is my first choice since it'd be a very easy commute and it's the least expensive.

I'm wondering if I should have applied to Pace...some of the horror stories about attrition rates on these boards scared me off, plus the price point is rough. Oh well, too late for that now.

Hey Downstate Hopefulls-

Has anyone heard anything? I haven't. I don't think I've ever checked my mailbox more often than these past couple of weeks....

Hello all,

I have not received an acceptance package yet, but I just noticed that my checklist now includes a health, deposit and background check portion.

I was wait listed last year so there is hope for re-applicants.

I am thrilled....hang in there everyone else.

My checklist was updated too. Don't you find it cruel of them to write "Accepted/Alternate" on the checklist?! I mean, just let us know instead of making us wait!

If your checklist has the background check and deposit link (not just a health section), I am pretty sure you have been accepted and not put on the wait list. Last year when I was put on the wait list, I only had the health section added to my check list.

Mine has been updated too! I have the whole checklist with the background check and deposit link...how positive are you that it means we've been accepted? I'm soo anxious!! we should receive some update via regular mail this week then right?

Bear and Heid,

I am positive!! Why would they want a deposit and background check from an alternate?

Expect your manila envelope with health and acceptance forms tomorrow or Friday in the mail.

Make sure to get all forms back to Downstate promptly.

Last year a lucky person got a slot a few days before the semester began because someone did not complete their health forms.

Looking forward to meeting all of you at registration day on Monday, June 3.
