SUNY Downstate ABSN Summer 2013

Hi All!

I wanted to start this thread to create some conversation about our application to SUNY Downstate's ABSN program beginning Summer 2013. I've heard a lot of pros and cons about the program and I would like us all to share some of our thoughts! Do any of you have a Bachelor's already? If so what is it in? Where did you take your pre reqs and stuff? What are some of your grades? I took all of my pre-reqs at Suffolk Community College. I received an A in A&P I & II (incl labs), Microbio (incl lab), Statistics, Psychology, Sociology, Developmental Psych, Group Theory/Social Psychology, & English I. I received a B+ in Chemistry and English II. My TEAS V scores are Reading: 91 and Math: 87. I also have my BA from Stony Brook University. Also, I applied to SB last year and did not get accepted to there program. I'm afraid the same thing will happen with Downstate and I do not know what more a prospective student can do! If there are any recent grads of the ABSN program out there please give a shout out! Any advice or opinions will help! Good luck everyone and hopefully we will all be together in the summer!!!!

I did not receive an e-mail.

I just see from the checklist that my application was sent to the committee on 11/5 for review.

No further information.

Why would they send you an e-mail if a decision about your application was not rendered? weird...

oh sorry..I did receive an e-mail when my application was complete and was being sent to the nursing review committee. It was a few weeks after I sent in my online application in October.

Hey everyone,

So my story is that I didn't do so well in undergrad but did awesome on prereqs. This makes me anxious as I have no idea how they'll interpret this... 3.0 on undergrad 4.0 on prereqs... I have some volunteer hours in but nothing else to show on my application.

I've applied but haven't heard back from the school yet. (sad)

I was wondering for anyone whos been accepted, did the checklist on the website change before receiving your acceptance in the mail? If so, how long before hand did it change?

Does anyone know how much our experience/resume/essay is taken into account? Are the decisions made pretty much on gpa/TEAS?

Hey green egg! So did your checklist change b4 getting an admissions letter or did it change afterwards? Also anyone else get any acceptances or status updates? It feels like they're already done or filled up and I'm just checking the mail everyday for no reason...

When I was put on the wait list last year, my checklist added the health component before I received the letter.

I am pretty sure that acceptance letters are still going out.

Other than greeneggs, has anyone heard about someone getting an acceptance letter??

i'm not quite sure when my checklist changed, but as soon as i received my admissions letter, i checked online and saw that there were additional checklists for health requirements, background checks, deposits, etc..., so i assumed that the checklist changed before i received my letter. i have not yet decided on which school i will attend since i have yet to hear from financial aid from one of my schools. i have limited my choices down to 2 now, and will decide as soon as i hear from the financial aid office.
