I've been lurking allnurses for a couple of years now and have been amazed that there seem to be no threads about the SUNY Buffalo ABS program. After several years of working towards my bachelors so that I can apply for this program, the time has finally come that my application is in... and still I find that all the UB people on here seem to be hiding!
So... roll call. Any applicants who hope to get into UB as their top choice... any future applicants... current students in the program, or alumni... please make an appearance!
I am especially curious about the stats of people who are applying or were accepted in the past (GPA, work experience, 1st major, etc.) as well as what current students and alumni think of the program.
It is my top choice and has been the one thing I have been striving towards for years now. Needless to say I am terrified I won't get in. I know how competitive public schools have become. Looking forward to hearing from all of you :)
for those who were admitted:
Hi,
I don't know if this is coming too late (like you already received your acceptance call!!!), but I am a current ABS student at UB and can answer questions that you might have.
How it worked for me:
I got a phone call from the school informing me of my acceptance. Although an interview was supposed to be part of the selection process, no interview was required for most of the applicants. I know of 3 people who actually got interviewed (out of about 50). My previous degree was in German/Spanish. Many of the ABS students this year majored in biology, psychology, social work, pre-med. However, at least 1/3 of the student have unrelated degrees like languages, art, music, IT, business, engineering, etc.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you might have about the program. My final semester is about to begin and I would love to be able to help out the incoming group of ABSers.

Hey Lisa, thanks for offering to give a little insight into the program. I know I have a few questions for you off the bat, and I'm sure plenty more to come, but here are a couple to start:
-did anyone find any scholarship/grants in your class?
-kind of similar to the first question, but there was talk of Kaledia offering scholarships with the agreement of you working for them for "X"-amount of years...did this actually happen for anyone in you class? have you heard anything about it?
-and the big question, whats the talk on job prospects after graduation? I know its on everyones mind so I figured I'd ask.
-lastly, do you know a girl named Charlotte in your class? She was from Rochester and I had her in some of my prereq classes last year...she knew I was applying for this year and I thought it'd be cool to let her know I got in.
again, thanks for taking the time to answer some of our questions.
GOT ACCEPTED! Recieved an email this afternoon letting me know I was accepted and that official letters/packets would be sent in January...anyone else hear anything???
Hello,
I applied the Accelerated program for spring 2012 at Buffalo and was wondering if you had any reviews on how the program has been thus far. How are clinicals and how often do you have them?
I myself have been a lurker for quite some time. I've been watching for a SUNY Buffalo ABS thread but its been less than fruitful. Therefore, here I am! I'm out of hiding and I'll attempt to answer some of your questions.I applied well before the Nov. 1st deadline. I drove myself insane during the application process by including eight schools. I can't say any particular SUNY campus is my top priority. (I applied to SBU and BING as well). Its a great education and I won't be in debt for the rest of the foreseeable future.
On to the stats:
I graduated this past May from Stony Brook:
B.S. Health Science GPA 3.13 Science GPA 3.43
Naturally, I realize i'm not nearly as qualified as other applicants. Moreover, several courses are IP or to be taken during the winter and spring (currently taking Micro, Nuitrition and Socieology). What remains is A&PII, Pathophys, pharamacology... I'm thinking theres more
Anyway, I got an provisional acceptance to drexel as a fallback option. Its a tremendous load of my shoulders knowning I didn't completely fail at the process.
I wish you, and all other SUNY Buffalo ABS hopefuls, the best of luck.
I was accepted to Drexel as well. Between you and me it seems like bimbo city.
Hi everyone! I applied for the ABS program for May 2012 and am looking to find some current hopefuls that I can keep my fingers crossed with until December. I also would like to talk to some of you that are currently in the program or are recent graduates and can offer some insight on courseloads, clinicals, and any other "would-like to know's".
