Hey Guys,
I just wanted to create a thread for those of us who are applying to the accelerated program at SUNY Brockport for Summer/2016. I have already submitted my application and I am wishing everyone the best of luck. I hope you guys get into the program you desire. I decided that I wanted to apply to Brockport because I needed a change of scenery. Coming from New York City I feel like Brockport is the financially responsible thing to do.
I am encouraging people who are currently attending the program write about their experiences and provide us with any advice as we embark on the journey of nursing school!!!
Thanks,
Ellie
In-state tuition (those who live in NY) is a bit under $8000 per year for the college in general. That does not include any living expenses, books, or any additional fees (simply because I do not know how much all of the fees are). They estimate that, with living expenses, books, and general fees (excluding any nursing specific fees), in-state cost of attendance is about $20,000 per year (I'm rounding up). All of the costs increase if you are not a NY state resident.
I know that's not very specific but I hope it helps. All of the info is available on the school site under cost of attendance.
JosephKey14, do you remember if the nursing program had its own deposit in addition to the usual tuition deposit for the school? I paid my Brockport deposit of $150 but I remember seeing something on the nursing site that said something like "the deposit must be paid within 3 weeks of acceptance or you will be dropped from the summer cohort". I'm just wondering if paying the tuition deposit is enough or if there is something else I am missing. I emailed the director but haven't heard back.
Hey, I only remember paying the one deposit for the program which was due by March 1st. I dont know if things have changed. Btw, you'd probably be better off calling. The director is one of the busiest people I'm aware of in the whole program, so its a bit dicey to get a response through email unless she knows your email by heart.

What's cost of books like? What about uniforms?
I have never bought any books for the program. I either find them online, or use some older texts from other nurses I know. There is two mandatory uniforms. One polo, scrub top, and scrub bottoms. Maybe $75 all together for all three. Also, you need khakis, so whatever the cost for those if you don't already have a pair.
Hey Josephkey14,
I appreciate you taking the time to thoroughly respond to me that has definitely helps.
I wanted to know what medical supplies are needed for class & clinical. Do you have any recommendations for stethoscopes? Is there a social media forum besides allnurses where accelerated nursing students from Brockport use?
Youll need a steth, blood pressure cuff, penlight, and scissors. Just get a steth that works for the program at the least. Littmans are the name brand steth among HCP's and are of the best known quality. It all depends on your budget of course, just get something you know you will hear what you need to hear with. There isn't another forum I am aware of. We had set up a facebook closed group for our class, and that is used fairly often and can be useful when you have a last minute question about something concerning classes. I could only suggest starting that and begin adding people from your class.
Anyone hear anything from the nursing program since getting the info in the mail? When I was accepted to U of R they made a point of keeping in contact so we knew what was up but since paying the Brockport deposit I haven't heard anything. I'm paranoid that I missed something and lost my spot (which is probably a complete overreaction but hey, this is important to me).

AllieLPN2, LPN I haven't heard anything since paying my deposit, either. The only communication I've received is an email for a transfer student orientation. Hopefully, we'll hear back about more specifics because everyone asks me when I am starting and I don't have answers! I did log into the Banner system and there was a list of action review items, so I tried to complete some of those, sending immunization records and what not. Personally, I think Brockport isn't the best with communicating, something I was warned about. Getting anxious to hear more though!
