Tweety hope you have a good trip

Hi  Dianah

Stars I hope your knee is better

Was a busy morning yesterday.  Initially it was quiet, until it was time to head downtown to the church.  Google Maps briefly lost the signal on the way there, but I picked it up again and only was delayed a few minutes and got to the service on time.  Glad that I came, apart from my friend and her husband  and the minister no one else from our church came. Was a good service although very long, nearly 2 hours

Had to call dad and tell him I'd meet him for lunch an hour later than I had expected.   Drive home was longer than expected too, traffic had gotten worse and Google Maps kept changing  course on me.

I did get to the restaurant and meet up with Dad.  Later I stopped at a bakery I had gone to with the Meetup group and went for a walk.  Watched most of the Svengoolie movie, it was OK but kinda dumb

Since this is our last 10am  church service before switching to the 9am Summer schedule, I decided to try and get in a hike/birdwatching in before  the service.  Will walk around more than usual to see how much I like the hiking vs the birdwatching

Have a brief meeting after church then will do some cooking for the week.  Got a new vegetarian cookbook so I can add some new recipes to my usual ones

Will be warmer today in the upper 70s

Good morning!

Stars, hope the gypsies settle down.

The trip went well.  I'm staying on a Holiday Express and it's nice.  I'm not sleeping on the couch or making my sister sleep on the couch as she suggested.  We all need some rest.

I made a sde trip on the way home to my first job at Duke University Medical Center.  It was barely recognizable but the university itself kept its charm.  I show a picture of the university.

Then I stopped by the UNC Campus where I went to school fresh out of high school a whopping 46 years ago.  The old dorm I stayed in was still there but much has changed.

Mom is having back pain and laid down much of the visit.  Dad is well but he's shrunk and is now shorter than me.   He's getting a hunch back.  His mind is sharp.   He said mom told him to give me $500 to offset my expenses fir the visit.  I fussed some but took it.  LOL

They have some geese that visit them daily.

My sister and I went out for some good Indian food.

Have a great day.20230520_124648.thumb.jpg.199d5d8c5a9bc837632fc93b37f3d46f.jpg20230520_171445.thumb.jpg.5fca4fd615bd1584637b36f4e7cbe1b9.jpg20230520_124745.thumb.jpg.0dd915d94f11c06555b733051c663b2f.jpg

Loved the photos, Tweety!  Canadian geese are so pretty, but so destructive of a yard. I had friends in TN who moved to a lovely lakeside home, and a year later, moved out again because the back yard, from the house to the water, was decimated into mud, and pooped upon by tooooo many Canadian geese. No way to get 'em gone, so they left, instead.

Joe, a 2 hour service? YIKES! // My knee is better, as the gypsies have quieted down, mostly. I am moving carefully so as not to invite them back!

The ballgame starts in about 15 minutes. We lost last night 7-3. Same team playing the Braves today, I think. (Mariners)

More later.....

Good morning. Thank you for the photos, Tweety. The Duke campus looks lovely. I've found many university campuses have some awesome architecture. Speaking of the destruction of Canada geese, I've read that golf courses will use border collies to clear the geese off the fairways and greens to cut down on damage.

I have a blah day yesterday. I had a nice run, and then went with dh to his sister's house for a get-together with his extended family. He has a couple of cousins who cornered me to tell me everything I need to do now that I'm retired. They mean well, but I felt like I was being bossed around--I need to this, and go there, and make sure I keep my national parks card in my wallet so I can get in free to parks. Uh, sure. Afterwards, dh drove around looking for a green tomatillo plant. One place we stopped at had a Chinese dumpling food truck and a beer counter. I made the mistake of having a beer, and got super sleepy and didn't get anything else done for the rest of the day. But woke up at 8 pm and couldn't go back to sleep.

Went down for our usual diner breakfast. Sis came, and we had a nice catch-up. She is still falling, but finally got a neurology consult appointment, in September. So glad there's no rationing in US healthcare (sarcasm). The cardiologist thought she might have benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, but I don't think so. She goes back to her PCP tomorrow and I will mention it.

Tweety I'm glad you had a good visit.

Stars I did disappear yesterday I guess. Didn't really do much but did go stamp some envelopes for the wildlife rehab. And took a big bunch of newspapers to them.

Today I weeded the garden. Little maple trees keep springing up. The tomatoes are really growing and even have a couple of green tomatoes on them. 2 of the 5 "hills" we planted have not had anything come up. We planted cucumbers and cantaloupe. Not sure what has grown. Guess we will find out!

Gma mutters almost constantly now. Whatever is going through her mind. Much of it doesn't make sense but sprinkled throughout are "Amen" and "hallelujah". This is new. Still throws in the "sh!t@ss" comments, too.

I washed the sheets but now have to make the bed before we can sleep.

Oh! Y'all inspired me to try grits for breakfast today. I have some because I made cheesy grits to go with an emeals meal. I added some maple syrup and cream, not being sure what the flavor of the grits would be like, and it was really good.

Tweety, loved the photos!  And yes, Canada geese can be quite destructive.  My last facility had a couple ponds, which attracted lots of ducks and geese, and walking on any of the sidewalks was an exercise in dodging their excrement.  I mentioned to a co-worker that perhaps the facility could hose off the sidewalks at least once a day?  He assured me they DID.  Hmmmm.  They are beautiful creatures, though.

Joe, good to hear you are branching out, not entirely dependent upon J for close friendship.  So nice you went to your friend's ceremony, I'm sure your being there meant a lot to her.

No Stars, good the gypsies have backed down.  Did your team win??

Hello Ado and nursej22!

We just got home from a nice hymn sing, in the mountains.  We arrived at 1:20, after picking up fiddler K, who was engaged to play piano for the hymn sing.  Sing started at 2pm, after ppl grabbed a Baptist hymnal from a bin, and seated themselves in the 115-year-old packing barn (with cement floor).  There was a table at the back, set up with cookies, coffee, and water.  Lots of side windows were open for air: no glass in the windows, just a few boards on a hinge, opened to let air in.  It was cloudy but warm most of the day, temp about 74.  We got a few sprinkles upon our arrival but no more the rest of the time.  Hymn sing went for two hours, and we played a couple sets of two songs each, interspersed between the blocks of hymn singing.  About 60 ppl attended, and were enthusiastic!  We had a nice time visiting afterwards, and then we four (dh and I, K, and our bassist E) headed down the hill to the local steakhouse and had a nice meal and visit there.

The planner of the hymn sing talked with K about doing it once a month.  We look forward to it!

Dh is feeding the cats; I plan on changing linens, having a shower, then relaxing.  (singing is hard work! :D )

Tomorrow I have a couple errands to do, nothing really important.

Have a good evening!
