Good morning!
Joe, hope your aunt is okay.
Washed some sheets and mowed as much of the grass as the battery allowed. Almost done but need to recharge the battery.
We got some serious rain yesterday, hard and fast like a rain forest rain. Flooded some streets and knocked down a tree in one of my coworkers neighborhood. But it didn't last long. I was leaving yoga and had to drive on the interstate through it and visibility was low, then it stopped by the time I got home and then came down and hit my neighborhood. Luckily my streets never flood. When the streets do flood from such rapid rain, it doesn't take long to for it to recede. A friend of mine was stuck in a flooded parking lot.
I was trying to get an appointment with my barber and noticed he's working today and set myself up for a haircut. Then going to the gym hopefully if I'm not too tired. I did my usual getting up too early thing which seems to be my sleeping disorder de jour.
Have a great day!
Hello all!
Joe, hope your aunt is OK. Were you able to reach J? Where is he, again?? Cookies sound delicious, and yes, they are a lot of work! It's worse when one prepares the dough (a double batch) AND bakes them (ALL!), all in the same setting! Very tiring!! I'm sure your cookies will be appreciated, folks love homemade cookies. One Christmas potluck at work, I baked a cranberry and a kiwi pie (red and green, for Christmas!). I thought they came out nicely! Folks, though, seemed to prefer the familiar: they ate a LOT of chocolate chip cookies, and hardly touched my pies! Of course, finger food is preferable, as well, compared with cutting a slice of pie, getting it on a plate, and negotiating a fork... ?
Tweety, hope the rat doesn't return! I wish we would get some rain here (ain't gonna happen)! You have a busy day planned!
We have a quiet day planned. I may go to the grocery store, will see.
Have a good day!
Another mean-hot day, with high humidity. I am plopped on the sofa, noodling around on the laptop and half-listening to the baseball game. The announcer just said what a great game the Braves were playing today, but I don't know how he figures that, since the Nats score is 5 and the Braves score is 3. Though it IS only the bottom of the 6th inning, and the Braves often 'rally' in the 7th and 8th innings; they come out of nowhere when they have two outs, and succeed both in gaining more runners in, and then stomping on the other team. I hope that happens again today! (Uh-oh, the Nats just bumped up their score.
We are not happy...our barber/hairdresser has unexpectedly retired, leaving us fretting about where and who to go to to tame our ever-growing locks. I can cut my own hair, but since I started seeing her, I have been spoiled by not having to. She is...uh, WAS...the only person I've trusted to trim my hair in many, many, many years! Oh well, whatcha gonna do! *sigh*
Tweety, My "Rat Story" goes back to the days when I lived in a run-down duplex near Centennial Park in Nashville. One lived in the broiler (which was never used; located beneath the oven, in a gas stove.) and my boyfriend at the time vowed to get rid of it. One evening when I was at work, he lay on the bed, facing the kitchen door. When the rat appeared, he shot it with a 357 Magnum!! "Go ahead, make my day!" Besides killing the rat, the shot did blow out some woodwork. However, since we were only paying $45/month for rent, and the house was due for being turned into someplace 'tony' after a year or so, the damage was not concerning. ("Ding-dong, the rat is dead! Which old rat? The broiler rat!")
Joe, I hope your aunt's condition improves with treatment. And that J. becomes less ~ "distracted" ~ and returns your texts to contact him.
Who was it on here who said their spouse used to eat raw rhubarb from their grandmother's garden? Hey! My friend's family had rhubarb growing up the side of their driveway. We would tear off and dispose of the leaves, rinse the stalks of rhubarb under the garden hose....they were good and puckery. I couldn't understand how rhubarb could be so sour when raw, and sweet when in a pie. Well, I was very young, and not aware that the recipe called for a good bit of sugar. Duh! But we liked the rhubarb raw, as well as what were called "Sour Pickles". Makes me shiver now to think of it!
Prolly will post more later--------------
Our sun is not bright at all. The sky is overcast. As usual, rode to breakfast and took an 8 mile ride home. Doing the usual toodling around in the garden. Taste tested the blueberries and raspberries. Both are tasty. I’ll pick the blueberries and take them to youngest grandson. And I urged the 5 year old next door to eat some too.
As kids, we used to chew on raw rhubarb, yes, it’s quite tart. My mom used to stew it and add jello mix for flavor and sweetness, and then canned it. My dad always took a little jar of home canned fruit in his lunchbox: rhubarb, peaches, applesauce or pears. Seems like we spent the better part of Summer putting up canned and frozen food.
Joe, best wishes to your aunt. Afib can be a real pain to control. And anticoagulation had its issues too.
Tweety, I seem to have some insulin resistance, so avoiding carbs is probably best for me. But they can be so delicious! Anymore, I find most desserts too sweet.
The sun is bright and hot here. Twin B grilled some burgers, brats, and corn for us. The West side of the house gets really warm on these hot Summer afternoons. My mom was determined that their next house (I.e. this one) would not face west. And it doesn't; it faces east, but the dining room window and large living room window face ... you guessed it... west. My parents had a shade tree for several years but it's gone now and Hubs hates mowing around trees, so...
My wanderlust occasionally drives me to look at the possibilities of living someplace new. I'm a would-be beach bum and recently discovered that the Mississippi Gulf Coast is pretty affordable. Two questions: Mississippi? Alligators? ?

Tweety glad you got that refund and got rid of the rat
Hi Ado
Dianah the three types were gingersnaps, chocolate chip, and oatmeal raisin. I made the dough last month and have frozen it until then
Stars glad your DH didn't have a fall
NJ22 hope you won't have to work longer for the procedure
Was a busy morning. Went bird, initially few birds but in the last 10 minutes saw a bunch. Then baked cookies for an hour, more work than I had expected, but it's done. Went out to lunch with dad. Watched Svengoolie, it was OK although it wasn't one of my favorite movies
Annoyed that I had to text J twice today after he didn't answer yesterday's text. Seems like he's been pretty busy on this trip so he was distracted.
Got a call from my dad, the aunt I was planning on visiting later this year was in the hospital for a few days with afib. Dad is going to get more details.
Will do laundry, then church, then cooking. Might ride my bike, then have an online CEU I have to complete for one of my licenses
Another nicer day in the upper 70s. Might get rain later
