Come summer time, I will have finished my first of four years of nursing school. I would love to find a p/t job somewhere in the medical field but I'm not sure what I would be qualified to do, given my level of nursing education.
Any ideas? I'm in BC, if that makes a difference.

Your first FOUR YEARS?
Wouldn't you be finished school?

Hi there,
I'm not sure how it works in BC, but in Quebec after a year of nursing school you are able to work as a 'préposé aux bénéficiaires', which is like an orderly/aide. I am not sure what they are called in BC.

Same in Ontario...except the title is Personal Support Worker here.

She said first OF four years.
Anyways, OP, you would be able to work as a care aid or home health aid. Depending where you are try, to get on with your local health authority. The pay is usually higher than private care homes (usually, but not always). Also, it can give you vital networking contacts that you could use later down the road when you want to do ESN work and then when you are finished school.
It wouldn't hurt to start contacting them now. Managers may be looking ahead to hire new casuals for very very busy spring/summer season.
Best of luck.
Thank you, all, so much for your information. That was very helpful and I have good direction as I approach the summer season and begin looking for a job.
Enjoy your weekend!

I assume BC has Community Living associations?
When I finished my first year, I applied to my local community living association and got a job as a community support worker for a summer camp for special needs teens. (I am in Ontario).
It was fun, and I got to practice a lot of my skills (toileting clients, brief changes, LEADERSHIP). I was also trained by them in Crisis Prevention and Intervention. (Nice on a resume).
I would highly recommend something like that for a summer job.
I suggest applying now to where ever you want to go, there is a lot of competition.
