Okay I have searched far and wide to find a topic relating to this but have only found older ones... I mean come on guys the world isn't really going to end December 2012. So here's to the 2012 application cycle!
I have a ton of questions for those who are applying and those who have applied and those who are in the program. Any and all input will be much appreciated. Also just so you know, I will be attending the October 1st open house.
If I were to describe myself, I would say grade-wise I am not the strongest candidate for JHU's nursing program as it is considered top in the nation. HOWEVER I have great experience and recommendations to cancel that out. I am also trying really really hard to make those essays seem great but only 300 words?
So to anyone reading this post, what do you think I can do to make myself a stronger applicant?
Relating to specifically JHU, I have heard a million different things about their program. From "it really sucks and is not worth it" to "best program EVER". JHU is supposed to be a school that is the leader in research and also has a global perspective. Can anyone else tell me what is so special about JHU's nursing program? What is your personal experience with it?
As far as location and campus, I think it doesn't matter as long as the educational program is incredible.
p.s. You are awesome for reading my novel. There have been many a times where I skipped over long posts.
I submitted my online application on 9/28/11 and sent in my supplemental materials on 10/26/11. I received an email on 11/3/11 that the application was complete and that I could schedule an interview. They were pretty flexible on the date and time since there is a 3-hour time difference for me and I work fulltime. I'm applying for the FNP program.
So exciting you guys!
Also I voted for your adorable pooch!
I just went in on the online chat to talk to the admissions committee. No word on how many applications they received this year but they say they will accept 125 students for each cohort (summer/fall) and that they receive about 800+ applications (for both cohorts).
So I did some math...if its about 800 applications then we have a 30% chance! Worst case scenario: 1000 applications and its 25% chance!
1 out of every 4 chance is not bad for my dream to come true!
Sorry guys, all I can do to console myself for this month is think positively about my application.
Good luck on your interviews as well!
Also for the essays I went a bit over but I do have some advice to give you: reread and trim. You can always trim a little more and be a little more concise. Try your best to follow their directions.
By the way, I was just told we find out BY December 15 which means we will know before then. That's kind of terrifying!
Also there is a 'wait list' in the sense that you may receive acceptance should they have admitted students not enroll but it does not carry to the next year.
For the BSN to MSN applicants: if you do not get accepted to this program you will be considered for the ABSN program.
I also got an email today saying
Your application is complete and you may call the Admissions Office at XXX-XXX-XXXX to schedule your BS to MSN interview
They asked me to contact them, but I guess it really depends on what specialty you chose for MSN. Different program may have different style.
ALXiong has a valid point. Each program has its own style of contacting its applicants!
Also I got an email today saying they don't have my transcript! So I made a big mistake. I kind of confused directions with another school I am applying to with this one. :uhoh21:
I re-sent it the day they sent me the email to the correct address (I spoke to a human instead of automated message) and hopefully it will get there soon otherwise...
I can't believe I did something like that!
Don't be like me leenak, the address is:
Office of Admissions, Johns Hopkins University, School of Nursing, 525 N. Wolfe Street, Student House 100, Baltimore, MD 21205
If I could I would hand deliver it!
They have two addresses (the other is on the 'contact us' page) but definitely go with that one.
leenak you have got to visit the campus, its small but really close-knit. Also free printing is so awesome!
Thank you so much for those who voted for my dog, Nurse Taylor! She won first place! We are ecstatic. What a great start to the holiday season...hopefully it will continue on with acceptance letters to JHU

How long did it take you to hear back about scheduling? Did they seem pretty flexible for making an appointment?
What MSN program are you applying to, pttrac?
