Suggestions on retaking the nclex?

Published

I know I'm not the only person that has not pass the nclex and therefore was hoping if anyone else out there in the nursing world can shed light on experiences retaking the nclex pn after not passing the first time (i took mine up to the max 205 questions).

Nearly all of my graduating class got their passing results in less than one month and when I reached the fifth week, my hopes really went down. I'm planning to get the kaplan qbank and maybe going to a kaplan study group but if anyone else can share their grueling second attempts it would be much appreciated.

I passed my pn boards on the first try with 85 questions. I think that kaplan has, without a doubt, the best book for studying for boards.

The book I used was actually an nclex rn book.

The test-taking strategies in the book are wonderful!

The kaplan book tells you how to figure out the answer to a question even if you have no idea what the right answer is.

It's not a big book (315 pgs.), but the amount of information is quick and to-the-point. It only has one practice test in the book itself, but the cd-rom has another practice test that will even give you a report on your strengths and weaknesses in various content areas. This way you can identify areas you need to focus on when you're studying.

I know that a lot of people on this site like saunders nclex prep book.

I also just purchased the prentice hall comprehensive review of the nclex-rn exam. This one is my second favorite book. They don't make an nclex-pn study guide but I think you could use the RN book to help you study for pn boards.

ISBN # for the kaplan book:1-4195-8244-5

ISBN # for prentice hall: 0-13-119599-9

I found the kaplan book test-taking strategies to be extremely useful even for nursing school exams (my school uses nclex-type questions on their exams).

I hope this helped! Good luck!

Hi! I have recently took my Nclex in July. I ended up taking a Nclex review prior to taking my test. My advice is to see if there is a Nclex review course available to you. My school recommended one as well as my nursing friends. She was expensive, but good. I passed with 75 questions. She teaches you how to answer Nxclex questions. Mosby and Kaplan books are excellent review sources. Also- check with your state licencure about your status once you retake it. I was able to see my RN # 2 days after the test. Plus if it's thru Pearson, you can pay like $10 and get your results immediately. Good luck to you! :nurse:

PS- you're a saint for waiting so long for your results ! 2 days was plenty long for me! :saint:

Where can I get the Kaplan Test Taking Strategies book? Im in need of the book! I failed the NCLEX for the first time and Im taking it again in November and I want to pass this time!
