Suggested pre-reading for Drexel ACE Spring 2011- 2012, accelerated BSN program?

Hello All - I will be starting an accelerated BSN program next spring 2012 - 's ACE - and would like to brush up on some subjects before the madness starts. Its very condensed and I want to get a head start on some new concepts and also review some of the older ones. For example, I took Statistics over 15 years ago, and I'm sure the math and calculations will be super important. I'm considering taking a look at "Calculating with Confidence" and perhaps some of the "... for Dummies" or "...made Incredibly Easy" books. I was thinking Patho and Pharmacology are two that I should familiarize myself with. I figure its a good idea to use my time now, while things are not so hectic. Can anyone recommend some books/subjects that they found helpful or wish they had looked at prior to the program? Thanks in advance.

congrats future classmate !we have ebooks for spring 2012 that are suggested to be purchased by march i believe so we have time to review. maybe you can purchase them earlier so you have a good idea on what to review? thats what i plan on doing.

are you planning on dorming?

thanks msnee, no dorming for me. I have a family to care for (though I wish I could just live in a dorm for the year to stay more focused!) :) I will be moving to Philly this summer to get myself situated by Spring. I'll be in the burbs, and will be taking the train into the city for classes. Bummer about the books though. Neither my laptop nor that tiny ipod touch are going to cut it for long-term reading, highlighing and notes and stuff. I'm gonna have to get used to reading on a tablet or something. So i'm still debating on the ipad, nook, tablet, etc... There goes another few hundred bucks towards school. Regarding my original post, someone told me that a few things to brush up on while i have time are Medical Terminology and A&P review. They will help a lot in patho and pharm.

Congratulations on your acceptance! I just finished first quarter of ACE and as far as studying anything before you start, I would really just focus on math, especially if you aren't comfortable with it now. The calculating with confidence book is part of the ebook package so if you plan to buy the ebooks I wouldn't buy a brand new copy of that now (although you could probably find an older edition or used one for cheap to practice with now). Also for the ebooks - you can read them on the ipad using the same app as the ipod, but I don't think you can highlight or right notes using it. And I don't believe they are compatible with nook or kindle. Keep in mind you don't have to buy the ebooks, they give you the book list so you can just buy hard copies if you'd like. I wasn't sure about them at first but it's not that bad reading on my laptop and I definitely appreciate not having to carry all those books around.

I'm not really sure if it would have been useful to look at Patho before starting since a lot of the information is really specific. And Pharm isn't until second quarter so I wouldn't worry about studying that just yet. As far as once you start, I really like the Reviews and Rationales books for each subject.

I hope this helps and good luck in the program!

Thanks Tara12! That was exactly the information I was looking for - especially from someone who is in the program right now. Really appreciate it. Much luck to you this year!

Hello and COngrats for being accepted into the ACE program. I was accepted into it as well starting in Spring 2012 and was wondering if anyone has any information regarding the start date, orientation, or immunizations?

Thanks
