Suffolk County Community College nursing prerequisites

Published

Hi everyone! I'm currently taking my prerequisites (just registered for AP2 and PSY 101) and hoping to get in for spring 2018. I went to a nursing seminar last winter and we were told that all we need for prerequisites is Bio 130, 132; Eng 101 and PSY 101, and Teas of course. But today as I was talking to one of my classmates she said that requirements have changed and we need to take also Statistics, history and eng 102. Is this correct? Next seminar session is February 2 and I will go there for sure again but I just want to know asap :-)

SCCC Nursing Department A.S. Program Options

It looks these are the co-requisites in which you'd earn points for having completed.

Also, based off of this link SCCC Nursing Department A.S. Degree Admissions Rubric - it doesn't look like the General Education courses like your HIS 103/104, HIS 101/102, IND 101/102, PHL 211, and PSY 101 really count for much at all. If you have 4 of those courses completed, as indicated, you would earn a maximum of 1 point from that section.

However, I would definitely recommend taking ENG 102 and MAT 103 which are worth up to 4 points each for getting an A in both. (indicated in the same link from above)

Use the rubric that the school provides and determine what you are able to do before you have to apply. It's my understanding that if you weren't finished with all of the courses that you would take them alongside your Nursing courses while in the Nursing Program. I would make sure to double check with an advisor at your school before registering though.

Thanks for the reply! I did lookat their website too, but I didn't get it :-) I have never studied in USA before that's why I'm a little confused with everything.

That's okay. I would strongly encourage you to talk to an advisor then so that you don't make a mistake. I wish you the best of luck!

Are you in the nursing program right now (August 2017)?

Not yet, I'm still taking my prerequisites.

Can I ask you HOW THEY ACCEPTED YOU not being a citizen or Green card holder?

Thank you so much!

Why do u think I am not a citizen or a green card holder lol?

Sorry If I offended you. I just wanted to know if someone else without the permanent residence could get into the Nursing program.

I saw when you said that you never had studied before in USA...

I am trying to get into the Nursing program, but from SCCC they told me that I won't be considered to be part of the Nursing program because my visa status...

It's ok, I am a permanent resident :-)

Hi,

I'm going through the same problem searching the suffolk website for answers and I'm still confused. Sometimes I feel like when I ask an advisor they always rush me off the phone and sound annoyed. I was wondering the same thing. Did you have to take Eng 102, statstics and history? I already took A&P2, PSYCH 101 AND ENG 101. I know the teas is important to get into the program but what should I take now? Advisor did say I can take the teas OCTOBER OF 2018 but should I take the other classes first and take the teas next year? I'm so lost on what to do. What did you do?
