Studying Med Surg

Published

ok so i'm starting med surg on monday (jan 3rd) and my med surg book is being delivered to me today. i want to start reading some chapters to kinda get a head start because i know med surg is tough! the only problem is i don't have a syllabus for this class yet. i'm not sure if start straight from chapter one or jump to another chapter.....the book we're using is the medical-surgical nursing concepts and practice by dewit. if who anyone has already taken med surg can offer me any advice on where to begin studying, it would be greatly appreciated.

cardiac...they always go crazy on the cardiovascular system!

Our Med Surg class started with safety and infection control. It was kind of like starting with the basics and building on more complex chapters. Hope this helps.

I did a general overview of all the chapters the first week I had my book, this helped me to see the outline of what was to come.

Good Luck, and make sure you read as much as you can of each assignment. Sometimes it will seem impossible to read everything that is assigned but put forth the effort, it will pay off in the end.

Ive learned that I really needed to brush up on my A&P... for some of the classes and tests I didnt do so well in when because you need a good foundation to build upon So I went over my old A&P exams, especially the ones I didnt do so hot on, and brushed up Good luck Almost halfway thru my 1st semester of Med Surg myself!

I recently took med/surg. In my opinion cardiac and endocrine are the most difficult sections. Flash cards and a digital recorder helped me and also a workbook if your book company offers it.

thnx everyone for the respones! my instructor ended up started on the resp system. (didn't see that one coming! lol)
