  1. I am uber excited about getting a job! A little about me: I'm a recent Rn grad from Miami who relocated to Atlanta last May. Became licensed last September, and began my job search in December (delayed my job search due to a trip my husband and I had planned to take in November). Within one week I think I applied to about twenty-five jobs. Towards the end of that week I got two calls for interviews; one for a Plasma donation center and one for a outpatient pain center. I went on the interview for the pain center first, which at the end didn't seem too promising. It turned out to be more of a Dr's office, there would only be one nurse and that nurse needed to have Iv skills (which I don't have) and didn't really seem like they were into training a new nurse (even though their job posting said they would). They said they'd make a decision in about a week but I was pretty sure they already knew who they wanted and it wasn't me. I kinda got the feeling like they were interviewing me just because I was already scheduled to come in, not because they were interested. Two days later I had my interview at the Plasma Center and it was great! Everyone there seemed very welcoming and pleasant, I had two interviews with them that same day and got hired on the spot! My job title will be Physician Substitute, I'll be conducting physicals on new donors, medical history assessments, counseling donors if blood tests reveal that they have hiv, hepatitis, etc. I think that this job will be a great start for me alot of hospitals won't hire unless you have experience, or a Bsn...here I can bone up on my assessment skills, iv skills, interventions if a donor is having an adverse reaction. Being a new nurse in this totally saturated nursing markets you have to be willing to be flexible! I would eventually like to work in an hospital setting for now I will do this, gain experience and see how things flow from here. For those who have been on the job hunt for awhile with no success, try plasma centers, small clinics or urgent care centers, school nursing, correctional institutions, etc. There is life outside of hospitals, don't be afraid! You can always apply to hospitals after you get a some experience.
  2. They ended up sending the email confirmation last night...which I thought was weird since it was a Sunday. Anyway the interview went great! I should hear something by the end of the week! Thanks, fingers crossed! :)
  3. I got a call earlier this wk for an interview next Monday. I'm really excited about it especially being a new grad...its great knowing that someone is considering me. Anyway I asked where the interview would be held abd I was told that would be emailed to me. I never received and email. I've called and left msgs but hace gotten no response. My interview is Monday afternoon, what do I do? Keep calling in hopes that someone will answer? I checked their website and there's no other number or email address. I guess I just show up for the interview and hope its being held at the office on their website?
  4. I'm currently in the Lpn program and I plan to go straight to the Rn program after graduation. I really want to buy a pathophysiology book but there's so many out there and I don't know which one's the best. Any suggestions?
  5. I'm really sorry to hear that. I know it's horrible going thru a breakup. My ex and I broke up a month and a half before I started the program and it was tough for me too so I can understand what you're going through. I know it's alot easier said than done but you have to try to push your thoughts and emotions aside and concentrate fully on school. Believe me, I know it's hard but you have to do it! At the end of the day, all you have is you and you deserve to give yourself the full opprotunity for success. You'll look back and feel so disappointed to know that you didn't succeed bc of an ex and that person is out there living their life happily and you're living with regret. The program I'm in is accelerated too, it's only 1 year and it's hard!!!!!!!! I have no job, no relationship, no kids, no distractions and this program is still very difficult for me. Do this for you, and when you complete it, you'll be so proud of yourself! Good luck!!!!!
  6. thnx everyone for the respones! my instructor ended up started on the resp system. (didn't see that one coming! lol)
  7. first off, congrats on starting the program! i've been in the lpn program since august and like jackie said, it is very challenging! be prepared to do alot of studying because that is the only way you'll make it! also forming study groups with your classmates is also a great step to take. by studying with a group or just with one other person allows to absorb info that they know that you might not and vice versa. it's so much material that has to be learned that reading studying alone may not be too effective (especially when you start pharmacolgy). good luck! and have a happy new year!
  8. I absolutly LOVE Tiye's comment because it is 100% true! Anything you want to do in your life, your career, you will face obstacles! I can count on one hand the amount of funerals I have attended in my life because I used to have a fear of the deceased. But guess what? During my clinical rotations I've already seen and participated in two post mortem cares! Challenges are meant to be over come. So if your goal really is to be a nurse than you can do it!
  9. ok so i'm starting med surg on monday (jan 3rd) and my med surg book is being delivered to me today. i want to start reading some chapters to kinda get a head start because i know med surg is tough! the only problem is i don't have a syllabus for this class yet. i'm not sure if start straight from chapter one or jump to another chapter.....the book we're using is the medical-surgical nursing concepts and practice by dewit. if who anyone has already taken med surg can offer me any advice on where to begin studying, it would be greatly appreciated. [color=#a0522d] [color=#a0522d]- happy new year's eve!
  10. thank u all for your responses. i decided to buy the book and i should get it in a few days. (hopefully b4 class starts on monday)
  11. i'm starting med-surg in jan and i'm not sure if i should rent or buy the book. i'm kinda leaning towards buying it b/c i feel like it's a book that would be good to keep for later reference throughout my career. then again....idk. maybe i should rent it.....? online the $$$$ difference b/w renting and buying the book is only like $20, so the money isn't really the issue. i just want to know if buying the book would be a good investment. help! lol
  12. congrats to everyone starting the lpn/lvn program in the spring!:yeah:i started in august of this year, approaching my 2nd semester this spring. it's alot of studying, i can't stress that enough, but it's really wonderful. i love the program and i'm already beginning to feel like a nurse. it's a wonderful experience, you and the classmates come to love and care about each other and they become your 2nd family. :heartbeat - happy holidays!
  13. Oh ok. Thank u so much for that information. I think the way your prog broke it down is better than the way my school does it. I'm in my last 2 weeks of pharmacology now and we have med surg next semester; no jr or sr.
  14. Well I'm at the end of my 1st semester of the Lpn program and next semester I'll be taking med surg. I'm not sure what exactly to expect from that course, I just wanted a little heads up on it. - Thanks!
