Studying for FNP Boards

Published

Hi everyone,

I just took the Barkely's FNP Diagnostic Readiness Exam and scored a 57%. According to the DRT ratting scale scores below 59 = deficient performance and need much remediation. I am disheartened by my score and I am determined pass my AANP boards in October.

Thus far, I have taken the Fitzgerald Live Review class in March and have answered all of the practice questions (~600 questions) in the FNP Certification Intensive Review Book (2nd edition) by Maria Codine Liek.

While I have done well in school ( GPA- 3.9) and clinical, I feel that I have a difficult time on standardized exams.

How do you recommend students study for their FNP boards? Do you recommend a specific book, review class?

I appreciate your help and guidance, everyone!

Does do recommend using the APEA qBank or Exam Edge for questions?

Does do recommend using the APEA qBank or Exam Edge for questions?

APEA Qbank any day!

My recommended resources (as these are the only resources I had and I passed the board exams on my first try):

1) Leik Intensive Review (book) = I got 88% for the questions in the back.

2) Hollier Live Review

3) Fitzgerald and Hollier Audio CDs

4) APEA 1000-question Bank = my scores for each topic ranged from 79 to 95%

5) AANP sample exams = got 88% also

I am personally against Exam Edge and I do not like Barkeley. But that's just me ;-)

Good luck!

PS: There are TONS of tips written by NPs regarding the exam. Under "Student NP", search for AANP exam or ANCC tips. You will be amazed!
