Study question for HESI entrance exam at CAC

Published

I am currently studying for the HESI entrance exam at Central AZ college & am looking for A&P study advice from anyone who has taken the test. I have the study guide but it is frustrating because I've heard some people say that it didn't help them when they took it! I tried asking advisors at the school and they just say they can't help me or that if I've taken A&P I&II that I am supposed to be ready - what?! There was so much covered in those classes!! I'm just having a hard time figuring out how much depth/detail of the systems I need to know to be ready, ugh!

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

It was soooo easy... there was some cell structure questions and really basic stuff. If you have been studying then you are more than ready. I didn't study at all and got VERY high scores on it. I even managed to get 80% in Chemistry and had never taken it. It was mostly stuff from my Bio class.

That is really good to hear! Everything else I've heard are people saying that it was difficult & having to take it more than once! When you took it were you just out of your A&P classes? Also, did you happen to buy/look at the HESI study guide & if so was it helpful?

Thanks again & congrats to you!

BTW are you a current nursing student at CAC?

No I went to Gateway instead of CAC, I would have liked to have gotten in there but I didn't have enough of the pre/co reqs completed at the time and they were starting their point system the next semester. I have a few friends there though and who are in Block 3 now.

I had just finished A&P 2 a the time I took it yes. ( Not that it really made much difference tho)

I did not get a study guide by HESI I had just picked up a generic one when I first thought about going to Nursing School and it really is more info than is really on the test.

I have taken the NET and the HESI A2 and really thought the HESI was the easier of the two.

Currently I have to take Chm and Micro to advance into Block 3 at Gateway next semester... but in the meantime I am going to be taking my NCLEX-PN soon.

Once again your feedback is so good to hear! I have been so nervous about taking this test, the last person I talked to who took it said that I needed to know the Anatomy & physiology of all systems (know all the bones/muscles/nerves/etc - what?!) & that she just barely passed. I took the NET test at MCC & thought that one was easy for the most part, but it didn't include A&P either...

I was also thinking about looking into and applying at Gateway for their LPN program because I heard you can then get into RN program right away afterwards... are you happy there?

Also, are your friends at CAC happy w/ their choice to attend there?

Thanks & good luck with your test! Can't wait to be where you are!

I went the LPN route at Gateway and was very happy. yes you can get into block 3 of RN. I needed two classes, so I'll apply for the fall semester for Block 3.

Both schools are great!

I just looked up my HESI score for A&P and I got a 94% on it. And since I took my Bios at Rio... I'd say thats pretty good (cuz I felt like I learned very little)

Just relax, take your time and really if you have an overall knowledge and remember the basics you should be fine!

I have another question. Is it correct that Central AZ C. requires CNA certif. for applying nursing progrm?

Yes you must be CNA certified to apply.

AZMOM2, Thanks!!

Hi there, I have some questions about the reading and comprehension section, is there someone who can help me? I am getting ready to take the test and I do not know if I am fully prepared for it. Is there something else that can measure one's ability to do good on this section (I got the Evolve book blue-yellow). Can someone give me some idea on what it was on the test regarding this section?

Hi All! Anyone out there that has taken the HESI recently for CAC? Nervous about the A & P and math. Any tips or hints or direction of focus would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks for your help!

The study guide is a good representation of the topics covered. The A&P was the hardest section for me (but I was told each school can adjust the difficulty of the test and the topics they wish to focus on and that everyone applying to my school does worse on A&P). I still did well on the A&P though and got 100% on the bio section. For the most part the entire test is general info. If there is something you aren't comfortable with I would review my A&P text/ notes. I reviewed my old notes and used the study guide.
