please help- I take the TEAS test in early April.

I purchased the Kaplan study manual for all nursing entrance exams. I read somewhere that the study guide provided by ATI was not very helpful.

So far the manual seems pretty inclusive of most subjects covered in the 11th and 12th grade but i need to be sure. Anyone have any good or bad experiences with using the wrong manual?

Also- i hear that the test is pretty simple but why are so many people failing? even after having gone through all the pre-req's?

I am trying not to get too anxious.

any advice on the study manuals???

I just got the ATI manual and it seems very helpful...and im going to borders today to purchase the Kaplan book (I have a 40% off coupon :)

I wont be taking the test untill Augest so Im trying to get a head start...my schools point system basesy 55% percent of your entrance on the teas score...any advice will be greatly appreciated :tku:

I just took the test and I tried using 3 different books which ended up being of no use. My best advice is to get Science, English and Math/Algebra for dummies. You need a general knowledge of these areas. Helpful to know about mitochondria, ATP and some general A&P.

Im looking through the Kaplan book right now...It looks pretty helpful...anyone use this book before taking the test? Did it help?

ADN applicants at the local college here are required to take the TEAS, and they state that the book published by ATI is all you really need. They also referred me to this website which has good supplemental information in preparation for the test: http://www.testprepreview.com/nursing_practice.htm

I just took the TEAS this past week and I used the Kaplan and ATI study guides. Kaplan goes more in depth for each subject, except for English, where I personally felt the ATI did a better job. I did fairly well - 89.7% composite which was 96% national and 95% for my program - but I still may retake it b/c my school uses the score as 40% of the point scale. Science was my lowest score (80%) and the ATI study guide really only tells you what may be covered, where as Kaplan actually goes into detail about each subject. I studied both, and still over half my questions weren't covered by either book. It really was one of those things that you either know the info or you don't. I guess if you were to study each area of science thoroughly for a week (chemistry one week, earth science the next, ect.) that would definately help, but is it worth all the extra time when you have other classes to focus on? I guess that depends on each person and school being applied to.

Helpful to know about mitochondria, ATP and some general A&P.

That's what makes the science portion so hard. I didn't have a single question about ATP or mitochondria and only 1 question regarding A&P. But I did have a lot of earth science, interpreting graphs, several scientific theory/experiment questions, densities, ect...

wow my scool uses the score as 55% of the point scale!! I dont understand why there is soo much earth science crap on there??

Not sure either. I mean, I think it's pretty random which quesitons you get, but I would think that nursing schools would rather focus on chemistry and A&P then whether or not a student remembers how to interpret a food web or which experiement will give the most accurate scientific results, ect. These type of questions don't prepare you for nursing school. I would think it would be more beneficial to weed out applicants who have a weak understanding of anatomy than those who have forgotten what a primary predator is.

Has anyone used the Secrets of the TEAS exam by Morrison Publishing? I am sweating blood over this. There is just so much to have to know I don't know where to start. I am so majorly dumb in Algebra/Math.

I ordered the ATI book last week, can't wait to get it. Does anyone know what the Kaplan book is called? I tried looking on Barnes & Noble's website, but there are over 1800 listings for Kaplan and everything I tried to narrow it down got me nowhere!
