I would LOVE to speak/read/write in Latin.

I took Latin in high school but I don't remember much!

To the OP, if you are worried about your reading skills, perhaps you can look into getting a tutor. I used to be a teacher and I did reading tutoring for struggling kids. There are a lot of reading strategies that are helpful. You might even be able to look them up online and implement them yourself.

I think you will be getting ahead of yourself and it will only make things worse for you.

Work hard at what you are studying now in high school. That needs to be your focus. There will be help in college. They have tutors (free) and other assistance if you just tell the teacher.

IMO when u attend nursing school, at least at my school, the instructors let you know what they want you to know and be able to test over. They give you the pages in the book to refer back to or to clarify more. If you read on your own you will take in a lot of information and not know what to narrow in on. Saunder's Review for NCLEX is a good book that will narrow down to the important points should you do decide to read on your own. But instructors are there to clarify and give real life examples. Also most colleges have resources you can go utilize for any special accomodations you may need.

I absolutely think you could teach yourself 95% of what you need to know. Absolutely. At least at my school, our instructors are pretty much good for nothing, sorry to say, they read straight from the book or Powerpoint notes and are pretty scattered and disorganized. The other 5% of human interrraction that you learn in Clinicals has to be learned in Clinicals but to answer your question, YES, you can teach yourself Nursing for the most part IMO

I think Cerda's perspective makes a nice change from the more common repetitive themes. Besides, if I'm wrong about it, I really can't see what difference it makes.

yes, but you would be further ahead not studying like a nursing student would.

instead, spend the time reading - anything that interests you. when it is too hard, you will stretch your abilities. when it is too easy, you will solidify your abilities. your interest will keep you at it even if it is too hard or too easy. if it doesn't, drop it and find something more interesting.

you might find nursing books fascinating but don't try to remember all the details like a nursing student would - just let things gradually become familiar. don't stick to the plan like a nursing student would - instead follow any rabbit trails that look interesting.

don't limit yourself to nursing books. i don't know what your interests are but the following have been well liked by many people i know despite wide differences in their interests: the ranger's apprentice series by flanagan, toy soldiers by william p. kennedy (reader's digest condensed books vol 3 1989), the hunt for red october by tom clancy.

actually, don't limit yourself to books. if magazines or comic books interest you, read them.

you will be further ahead because you will spend so much less time and effort learning with your stronger reading skills.

I find it a tiny bit odd that people go back and check other member's past posts. I've never even thought of doing that.

Any time someone believes another poster is a troll they can feel free to refrain from commenting or offering any advice or whatever.
