Students - What do you expect from nurses who precept you?

Just thought I'd throw it out there, because I want to see what students expect and like from their precepting nurses during clinical. I love having nursing students and I feel that I facilitate learning/teach as best as I can, but any suggestions from current students would be awesome! I had, in general, pretty bad experiences with a lot of nurses I was with when I was a student and thus want - as I'm sure many other nurses do - current students to have the best experience they can and have an environment conducive to learning while on the floor.

When I went through my preceptorship I had the best experience! My preceptor let me do just about everything. She'd show/explain first, then I had to do it from then on. She'd always double check, but most times it was good. She made sure I saw/did as much as possible. She also let me teach other nursing students, which is a great confidence booster! I precepted in L&D, and if there was an interesting delivery she'd have me go watch/help. I suck at IV starts, so she had me do as many as I could. I didn't just follow her around like a little puppy, I got in there and did everything. I did lady partsl checks, started IV's and Foley's, do the apgars on the babies and all that entails, did the after birth clean up, set up the delivery trays for the doctors. Like I said, best experience ever. Only things I was not allowed to do were placing the internal fetal monitors or IUPC!
