Students that "float" by in college

Published

Here is what I don't understand. There are at least 10 out of my class of 30 at present that are just getiing by with the miniumm. Our grade average must be 74 or greater to pass. Well, in Cardiac last quarter this guy in particular was cheating off anothers notes from past and didn't pass Cardiac. But somehow got the chance to RETAKE a test becasue someone complained about the noise in our building that day of the test causing so many to fail. Well I guess he re-took the test last week - I haven't heard how he did, but he cheats? How is it possible? I study and get good grades and then there are others that cheat to get the 74% so they can get out of college. I don't have the evidence of him cheating, just his verbal word that he does. It is just annoying. Will these people pass their NCLEX? I mean how is that possible?:angryfire

I believe in Karma and think that people like him will get theirs ya know?! Keep focused on you and your grades and that you WILL pass yours!!!! Keep up the good work!

I agree with nsalvadore. life is too short and stressful to be worried about what the next guy is doing. if you are smart, and doing good, just be focused on yourself. believe me i am in my final semester in nursing school and i feel like i have created a wall around myself and everybody else. its all about me i really dont let useless things bother.

I wish you the best!!!

Thank you! I have one more quarter to go. I just get annoyed with people that cheat that are always asking me how I did on a test? USELESS I know. Just a pet peeve I guess!

I don't see how anybody that cheats to get through school could pass the NCLEX unless he was very lucky. Anyway, I would just keep my distance and do my best if I were you, you can't worry about him. Good luck!

He'll be kicking himself in the face when he is working as a nurse and is totally lost...

I would like to expand on this by adding that I find it annoying when I hear students brag about getting the minimum grade on a test or in a class, or about how they didn't study for a test and still passed. I think that students that cheat and those who are content to scrape by will pay for their slothly (is that a word?) attitude later. I think that students such as these are not looking at the bigger picture. It's not just about getting a good grade or passing a class anymore. We are at a point in which our focus should be on really comprehending the material laid before us, thinking critically about a situation, and then applying said information.

I believe that eventually their lack of knowledge will expose them. If somehow they manage to pass their NCLEX (and if they do congrats to them) they still have to "pass" the rigors of residency.

I find it surprising how many students in my nursing class have a "i just need to pass" attitude. Now I am no 4.0 student (close but not 4.0) but I study my butt off because I know that at some point I will be entrusted with the life of another human being and I feel that it is my sole duty while in nursing school to learn as much as I possibly can so that I can provide the safe competent care that will be expected of me.

Focus on doing the very best you possibly can and know that eventually cheaters will be exposed for what they are.

Silly question.....why is getting someones NOTES from a prior class or a prior year cheating? I see it as resourceful for some that are not great note takers. It is different if he had advanced knowledge of the contents of the test or looked as someone elses test or had a cheat sheet....THAT is cheating. JMHO.

BTW, some may not be lazy....I have sister who hated me (not really). I never had to study and aced the tests. She busted her butt to get anywhere near what I would score. She studied forever for the SAT.....I said, "If I don't know it by now, I never will." and got 400 pts higher on the SAT than she did.

She fretted so much over the NCLEX back then because she KNOWS that she doesn't test well. So some folks who know the material and test poorly may actually be happy about "just passing" but will make good nurses later.

For those who are lazy and giggle about sliding by.....as another poster said, karma will get them. They can't slide by at work and keep a job long.

Focus on YOU and forget about them. You are the only one that matters in your life and future! :D
