Barry CRNA starting May 2019

Nursing Students SRNA

Anyone applying to Barry University BSN to DNP starting May 2019?

Yes the program is hard. I've spoke to several students from Barry. They all say the same thing. They like the program but it is intense, especially the first year. Their attrition rate is about 12% which isn't too bad. As for the interview I hear that it's a "meet and greet" interview. They also have a short chemistry test which asks you basic chemistry questions. However, I've heard that the interview is more of a formality than anything else. I've heard that if you're invited to the interview then it's because they pretty much have decided to accept you into the program.

I'm sure you already know but Barry offers an online course for prospective anesthesia students called "Transition to Nurse Anesthesiology." I took the class a little over a year ago and it was very good. I recommend it if you have the time, and money.

Are you in the program now?

Yes, I am aware of that course. I cannot take it because when I graduated 20+ yrs ago a Chem Lab was not required for a BSN only a Micro LAB. So I have to take a Chem class and a Lab since my Chem class is more than 5 yrs old :(

No I'm not in the program yet. I will be applying this year so that hopefully I can start next May. However, I've spoken to several students who started last year.

Yeah the "Transition to Nurse Anesthesiology" fulfills the science class requirement, not the science lab requirement so yeah you definitely need to take a chem class and the lab. I mentioned that class just because it'll look good on the resume if you've taken it. It's all online and it's a pretty easy class, but you will learn some things that will be helpful in the CRNA program.

I think you'll be fine though. But if you can squeeze it in to your schedule then you should take it. Are you going to take the chemistry class in the Fall?

@epere049 BSN RB

Yes, I plan on enrolling in General Chem and Chem Lab in the Fall.

Yes, I've heard that Barry's program is hard but its grads are well respected. I shadowed a CRNA at Jupiter Medical and all of the nurses and other CRNA's spoke very highly of the Barry graduates.

Yes I've heard the same thing. Barry SRNA students stand out from others.

Actually that's what I studied...Magoosh..I did every single module, took notes, did practice problems and completed 2 Power Prep Tests of ETS. 5 pts seems almost impossible I hear it's very hard to increase your score more Galvan 2-3 pts with this new GRE.....Well I have to take Gen, Chem before I can take BioChem or Orgo anyways.

Has the GRE changed ?

Has the GRE changed ?

Yes, it's actually more difficult if that's even possible...highest combined score now is 370. They changed both sections a bit and quant is definetly harder.

Just to clarify, the highest combined score on the GRE is 170 for reading and 170 for math. This makes a combined score of 340. The writing section is scored in half-point increments from 0 to 6.

Im sorry...yes you are right..combined highest score is 340.

Has anyone gotten invited to the interview yet?

I think it's way too early for that. Application deadline is Nov 1st. They usually start inviting people to interviews after the deadline I think.

Specializes in ICU.

From what I remember, their first calls for interviews went out ~ 9 months before the start date of the program.
