Hi. Well you have A LOT of experience in ICU and a very good GPA. Those two things cannot be ignored by the admissions committee. If I were you I would retake the GRE after you get the CCRN Certification. I heard from a current CRNA student at Barry that the admission committee places more emphasis on the math section. Then in the Fall semester enroll in an Organic Chemistry or Biochemistry class plus the lab. I think you'll be just fine if you do those things.

Oh! Organic or BioChemistry...I was just going to take General Chem or Chem for Health Sciences..I know they prefer the ones you mentioned as per the webinar.

Taking the GRE again gives me so much anxiety as I really studied for that exam for 8 weeks relearning high school concepts I totally forgot...just the thought of doing that again! I was hoping everything else will outweigh my lower GRE scores?

I know exactly how you feel. I took the GRE last year and got a 297 ; I feel at the end of the day they look at the application as a whole and last year if it was just the GRE holding candidates back they asked them to retake it after the interview. I took a gen chem class with lab as I was out of school 10 years ago. Have you guys seen the personal statement question ? I felt like question 2 and 3 are the same asking for the role of nurse anesthetists. is it just me or do you guys feel it is a repetition of the same question

The GRE is very hard so don't feel bad, especially since you've been out of school for so long. I do recommend that you retake it though and try to improve your math score by 5 points or more. I also recommend that you use Magoosh.com to study for the GRE. It's great! General Chemistry is fine but take organic or Biochemistry at a local college if you can and try to get a B at least. I think you're a very good applicant. Like I said your experience and GPA can't be ignored. But since you've been out of school for a long time I think you have to show the admissions committee that you can excel in a rigorous science class (since CRNA program is a science-orientated program) which is why I think you should try to take Organic or Biochemistry if possible. If not then General Chemistry will be fine. You don't want to give them any doubts that you'll excel in the program.

Actually that's what I studied...Magoosh..I did every single module, took notes, did practice problems and completed 2 Power Prep Tests of ETS. 5 pts seems almost impossible I hear it's very hard to increase your score more Galvan 2-3 pts with this new GRE.....Well I have to take Gen, Chem before I can take BioChem or Orgo anyways.

Almost done with my application. Only need to take the GRE and finish BSN (both mid June). Everything else is done. ADN GPA 3.22. BSN GPA 3.93. CCRN certified, Medical ICU 7 years experience. I am applying to WPB campus. What about you?

Good Luck with that dreaded GRE!

Hi all!

Planning on applying there this Fall. I know a nurse who moved her family of 4 to FL just for Barry and graduated a couple years ago. She highly recommended it.

I have:

-5 years as an ED RN, but floating to ICU the past 2 years. Just started full time in January at our now level 1 trauma center (helped train and transition from level 3 to 1)

-CEN, TCRN.

-3.3 cum/3.0 Science GPA (might be lower if they make me count a gen chem class I got a D in a few years ago when I first started this CRNA journey :banghead:)

CCRN this summer. GRE this summer as well.

My classes are starting to expire since I've been nursing for 5 years now. My bestie who's trying to get into PA school is running into the same issue. We took o-chem together.

What angle do you guys approach for the personal statement? That always gets me and I just don't know what they're looking for. Plus I'm sure it varies based on the school and person/committee reading it.

I felt like the Question 2 and 3 of the personal statement were the same question !!! what did you think

I have heard that Barry's program is a weeding out type of program...has anyone heard this?

Anyone know what we should expect at the interview?

Yes the program is hard. I've spoke to several students from Barry. They all say the same thing. They like the program but it is intense, especially the first year. Their attrition rate is about 12% which isn't too bad. As for the interview I hear that it's a "meet and greet" interview. They also have a short chemistry test which asks you basic chemistry questions. However, I've heard that the interview is more of a formality than anything else. I've heard that if you're invited to the interview then it's because they pretty much have decided to accept you into the program.

I'm sure you already know but Barry offers an online course for prospective anesthesia students called "Transition to Nurse Anesthesiology." I took the class a little over a year ago and it was very good. I recommend it if you have the time, and money.

Those are some very good stats. I have the CCRN and TCRN. I'm trying to get the CEN in the next few weeks.

As for the personal statement, just answer it as best as you can. I think that they're looking for a well-written personal essay. Part of what you write should be what made you want to become a CRNA and why you think you will love it and cite an article that supports your understanding of the role of the nurse anesthetist.

They are basically the same question. The second question is asking what you think the role of the CRNA is and the third question isn't really a question; it's just a statement saying to use APA to cite an article that you've read that makes it clear to you that you understand the role of a CRNA.
