Student mom- ITT Tech VS Galen - HELP ME!!

Published

Okay so here's my situation... I am trying to decide between schools and I am at a loss. So I'm going to lay out the pros and cons of each and am going to see what you all would do if you were in my shoes. Okay so here it goes...

My personal life: I'm currently a 20 year old stay at home mom of a 11 month old. I live with my boyfriend who works a full time job Mon-Fri / 830am-5pm.

Both schools would cost about the same for me after my financial aid help, and both schools have the 2 year RN (associates degree) program I want to go into. Both are also the same distance from my home. Galen on one hand has a schedule of M-F 8-5pm. ITT Tech's schedule would be more open 2/3 days a week and only half days. I am very scared to leave my son and the more time I have to spend away from him the worse off I'll be. I just want input on what you all think would be the better fit for me. I'm not sure why but my gut feeling is telling me to go to Galen, but I hate their full time schedule. I cant seem to get past that. To those without kids, or who have never had to go through this before, may not understand my dilemma but it makes a huge impact on my decision. I just want insight on what other student moms think about these programs. Is one more difficult than the other, or is one more designed for parents ect.

Any and all advice is welcomed. Thank you!!

Hi! Do you live in Louisville? If so JCTC has an associates degree RN program that is much more reasonably priced than either Galen or ITT Tech. I'm currently in the B

Yes I live in Louisville but I was trying to avoid programs that take longer than 2 years all together. I'm not worried so much about cost, the schedule is what I'm focused on.

Probably not what you want to hear but there are probably a few other factors that you may need to consider. Schedule is important to you but when you do a 2 year program things are much more condensed in. By the time you factor in clinicals, study time(away from your child, you probably wont get it done otherwise), and outside projects. If i were you to spend more focus on pass rate, which looks better on an application, and whether those schools have supplemental online class viewing capabilities. Galen would probably be the better choice even though it's full time, especially if you use day care services which operate within the normal 7-6 parameters. The better school will help you actually pass your boards and make it easier to find a job when you are through. You are making a sacrifice to go back to school and i commen, but make the effort worth it. Good luck, hope that helps. you.
