Does anyone know if defaulting on a federal student loan puts you at risk of losing your nursing license?

Depends on the state, but yes, there are some that have licensure repercussions for not paying loans.

Yes, in addition, many hospitals would run a basic credit check as a condition of employment and it would show up.

Considering that it's a FEDERAL loan, could the feds go after income tax returns?
Would it knock an applicant out of job opp'tys in any fed institutions, like a VA hosp or NH or corrections?
It CERTAINLY should prohibit one from seeking future loans for advancing education.
Questions just came to mind.

You might be able to defer payments. Contact your loan provider to see if any options are feasible. I know that certain hardships allow for deferral.

Wouldn't it be nice if the Feds were to delay repayment of student loans for HCW who're working thru C19? I heard some speaker commenting about programs for delaying mortgage pay'ts and insurance pay'ts.
Just delaying repay't for a few months would SIGNIFICANTLY help HCWs working and unemployed.
Not meaning to hijack OP's post; just a tangential idea.

The ones owned by the federal government were all placed in forbearance through September. Privately owned loans not so much.

Glad to see that there's some relief there.

I didn’t even know until I realized the day after that my automatic payment didn’t go through. The day after the payment was due I got the email ?
Again, glad to see there's some little relief for so many. Stay safe.
