Hello. I'm currently going to a community college and hoping to get into the nursing program. The wait for the program is too long. So.... I'm looking for the faster route. Tomorrow, I have a meeting with someone at an LVN school and I wanted to know what questions should I ask about the school. If you have any questions in mind it would help alot.

First you should ask if they are accredited because if they are not then you may not get to sit for the NCLEX-PN and then you need to of course ask about the tutition, books, uniform, etc. & ask about financing. I am in the same boat as you I just finished my A&P class this past Tuesday & then it's onto Psychology 101 starting June 16th!!!! I am currently #44 on my community college's LVN wait list & I will not start till next Fall & I have already been waiting for almost a year ugh!!!!!!!! & now it's another year I want to cry right now I am so depressed ugh!!!! sorry about my long post I just needed to vent. I hope some of the information helps ok, let me now how it goes ok:)!!!! I wish you lots of luck:saint:

Don't forget student retention rates (how many start the program and how many actually graduate) and Nclex pass rates. If the Nclex pass rate is low, start looking else where.

I too want to bypass the long waiting period that most community colleges have in CA. I have researched and found a career college that is accredited with a 92% pass rate. The only thing is I have no prior college credits so I will not have an Assoc. I will only be ready to pass the nursing exam and receive my LVN. My delima is that it will cost $25,000. The one year that would bypass allows me to work in one year and contiune towards getting my RN. But is that too much of and expense? What do you think?
Sorry for the delayed response. I'm still kind of new to this. Well, the visit with the Admissions Counselor went ok. She answered all the questions that I had for her. All the questions you gave me helped alot. Congradulations on completing A&P. You should be happy that your #44 on the LVN waiting list. Things can be worse, l'm not even on the waiting list. That's why I'm looking at other schools the only thing is do I really want to take out a loan. Thanks again for the help.
Keep up the good work and keep me posted. Wish you well.:wink2:
Sorry, I'm in the same position as you. The school I was looking at cost $23,000 and thats just for the LVN program. Evetually I want to continue RN but that's addtional $$$$. So, your not alone.
Today I have talked with a couple community colleges. One is on a lottery system and the other still has a year waiting list. To complete my education from LVN to RN should only be an additional $4000.00. So I have decided to go ahead and go to the career college and spend the extra money in hopes of making up the difference at working sooner. I had a reply from another site that said if you are a hands on person that the career college is a great choice. And I have been out of high school over 25 years. SSSOOO I wish you luck in whatever you decide. And here I go today to sign up for Concorde.

Good luck with your program. Its not an easy decision to make to go private as we are doing as most on the forum just advise you to wait for the cheaper route. However both of us have realized that we aren't getting any younger unfortunately and that changes things.
it has now been one and a half years from the point that i was asking if i should be in a career college lvn program...i have graduated from concorde career college... and on sept. 28th i take the nclex...it was a long hard road to take but i know now looking back, it was well worth every sleepless night of studying...i am a 44 year old mother of 3 children (2 active teenagers and one hyperactive 10 year old) and it was insane at times but we managed to make it!! good luck to anyone trying to make this decision...if you want it enough you will make it happen!!!:yeah: susan kuznik lvn
