Hi all,
Has anyone dealt with a student with Gender Dysphoria or with a student who is Transgender? Anyone have any great resources to help kids (in my case, 9 year old 4th grade boy) to navigate his/her feelings? I had a student today come to my office and tell me something he has "only told mom and dad." I had a lengthy discussion with Mom (who only was told last night by her child) and is in shock but sincerely wants to support her child and get him any help he needs. I involved our School Psychologist, Guidance Counselor and Principal with Mom's permission. We are all going to have a meeting together to discuss our next steps forward. I've never dealt with anything like this before, and I don't believe our other staff have either. Any help or resources would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

It sounds like you have done the right thing, so far. This will likely become more common. In my HS I have 2 children who openly identify as the opposite sex. They are both 14.
Your main concerns as a school? Probably bathrooms, gym changing...as long as the child feels safe.
I don't know the answers. It's going to be an ongoing process.
Keep us posted?

Of the school nurses, you are likely the one breaking ground on this subject under these particular circumstances. Sounds like you've organized all the appropriate resources to collaborate, assess, and initiate a framework to move forward. Good luck and let us know how it goes.
