Whats going on in MA with the nurses union? Just wondering.
RockieSis
I have been out of the MA loop since I got my RN in Worcester. What is the story? How long have they been on strike and where? Is it just Boston? I know they had a strike in 2000. Is this the same strike or a new one?[/quote1005 days and it is the UMAss Medical Center and counting despite the hospital making a phenomenal profit they want to take away 3 holiday and do away with several personal days ,the fact that 32 hours will be considered part time with increased insurance as a result and finally the nurse cannot share sick time with others who need it.
Cambridge Hospital has a fight ahead of it because the hospital wants the
staff to use cambridge MDS only else pay a higher premium for your insurance.
The nursing unions in MA are very strong and getting great results. Safer staffing and some of the best paid nurses in the country.
They have to get good pay. It all goes to TAXES.. Massachusetts isn't called TAXACHUSETTS for nothing..LOLL
Every time they get a raise so does their local and state government. I don't think the workers are coming out ahead of the game.
NO UNION IS A GOOD UNION

Agree with you about MNA we got a raise and so do they (they double our fees) we pay $800/yr in union dues
So are you even money, ahead of the game, or behind the eight ball now?We were fighting for parity with our sister hospital so we got a $13.00/hr raise so I would say still ahead of the game. The only thing is the sister hospital did not get any major increase and their union dues also went up like ours.
I have been following this thread with interest, if ya'll have gotten an 13$ an hour raise, what is your base pay for new grads and also for a nurse with a BSN and several years of experience? Just wondering. Down here we get a 3% yearly raise. Dont get me wrong, I'm always happy about 'Mo Money' but 13$ an hour raise! WOW!

$23.00 for new grads. Anyone with greater then 10 years gets either $42.00 or 44.00 base
Where I am RN's pay $5.00 a pay check (paid weekly) they do not park in the hospital property but at a parking area nearby and are shuttled to work. Oh did I forget we have a pension instead of paying social security. After 25 years you get full pension and healthcare coverage.
Are you in Boston proper? Because I've heard many travel nurses living out side the city because of the parking issues. I think they might have been talking about parking at their apartment complexes though...HMMM I guess I have to re-think my original question.
