I am a new grad and recently went on an interview at Stony Brook Medical Center. I was wondering if anyone went through the hiring process. How long did it take to hear back from the recruiter or nurse manager after the interview? And if you did accept the position, what was your experience going through the Residency Program?
Thanks :)
Does stony brook only conduct one interview? Or do you come back a different day to meet the floor?
One interview with the recruiter and one with the unit. Usually it's done on the same day if the management is available and it can be scheduled that day. Mine had to be 2 different days as my recruiter interview was late in the day and they could not fit me in for am interview on the unit afterwards.

Thanks paco! So my next question is do they often interview for positions that aren't posted. I was called in for a unit I didn't apply for

They seem to like to do that, depending what is available and their need for staffing. But once you are in the system, it is easier to transfer to another unit. Meaning, you still have to interview but the paperwork is not as severe.
I know this post is basically a year or so after but, can anyone tell me what the starting salary of SB is? I have an interview next week for a CACU position. I am a new grad BSN-RN. I am so excited for this opportunity but from what i've read elsewhere, the pay is much lower than some other hospitals but with better benefits. I unfortunately have 85k in student loans to pay back =/ Any info would be greatly appreciated! Thx!!!

Hey, this is way after you asked, but I think the starting salary is around $69k for a new nurse before night differential. Pretty sure SBUH realized they needed to even out the salary discrepancy with other hospitals in the area.

Stony Brook is definitely hiring, this is a good time to apply.
