Stony Brook U Nursing Basic BSN Fall 2014 Applicants!

Published

Hey everyone! I'm in the middle of my prerequisites for the nursing program at Stony to apply for admission next fall! Just wanted to reach out and say hey to anyone else in the same shoes! Where else are you all applying?

SBU is obviously my first choice, but I'm also applying to NYU, Adelphi, Molloy, I might apply to York and Lehman, and I might apply to LIU Brooklyn. I would apply to Hunter, but I don't want to transfer for the spring only to be waitlisted (or rejected!) for one of their 100 seats.

Does anyone know if you have to give a deposit for the wait list? Good luck to all!

@kolpn: thanks for your advice. i take Molloy coz it's very close to my house and I can work during school PLUS they give me scholarship too :) and I can do double major in Molloy. Best of luck everyone!!! I think you guys will achieve and be successful whenever you choose to go.

I was thinking about it but my friend who has been trying to volunteer said that the people kept telling her they had no open spots on their floors so I wasn't sure if I would be able too. I should probably just go there myself and see instead haha. And yess I am in his class on Thursdays

its surprising that that voluteering at sbu has a wait list! I was able to volunteer at 18n nursing without a problem well lmk if u need the gown! It's mandatory to wear for volunteers

Hi,

They have in the past & I don't think they will have a problem with you repeating courses. Although, it may depend on how many courses you have repeated. I'm currently in the program and I have retaken a course.

Hi, I am an accepted student for next semester. Would you be able to tell me what the first semester schedule is like?

Congrats & welcome! :-) they have been playing around with the classes so your first semester might be different from our first semester. We generally had class mon, tues, wed, & Friday. Every other Thursday was our fundamentals (now called Principles & Applications (P&A)) clinical. These are 8 hr clinicals (7am-3pm).

On other days, we would have class from 9am-12pm or 9am-3:30/4pm. Two of our classes did not last for the entire semester: Professional Roles & Med Math. So once those classes were done, we didn't have to worry about them for the rest of the semester.

The other classes were P&A 1 (&lab), Health Assessment (&lab), pathology.

Like I said before, this may change for your class...but will probably follow a very similar schedule.

Hey thanks for getting back to me. Quick question, i heard that there are some classes which are online, is this true?

We haven't had any online classes. We have had LMS where we take some exams on the computer & can look at information prior to pathology class.

Hey guys, I was wonderong if anyone has received any information on orientation or anything extra besides being accepted. I am just waiting to finish up my micro class that ends early July and for my official transcript. I have yet to be offered any financial aid packages (on solar) or any specific details. Also, does anyone know when the program officially begins? I was super excited to be accepted but now feel lost with lack of detail and with my unfamiliarity with the solar system. Maybe I'm asking for too much information too soon but if anyone knows the details it'll help me relax B-)

School begins aug 25. I haven't received any additional info either. I have to apply for loans so I hope they send the info soon :) I also have to submit my transcript with my last 2 pre reqs I'm taking over summer.

Thank you for the info! I also hope they offer the financial aid package soon. Good luck on your summer classes! 8-)
