Stony Brook U Nursing Basic BSN Fall 2014 Applicants!

Published

Hey everyone! I'm in the middle of my prerequisites for the nursing program at Stony to apply for admission next fall! Just wanted to reach out and say hey to anyone else in the same shoes! Where else are you all applying?

SBU is obviously my first choice, but I'm also applying to NYU, Adelphi, Molloy, I might apply to York and Lehman, and I might apply to LIU Brooklyn. I would apply to Hunter, but I don't want to transfer for the spring only to be waitlisted (or rejected!) for one of their 100 seats.

Hey atleast you got on the wait list.. There is still hope for you!! Lmao I know this is not funny but I'm trying to make good out of a bad situation

Waiting list mean "no" I drop that :) can't wait for sbu anymore. Gotta move to the next round. Do you guys have any plans beside Sbu?

Hey @Blue-moon, if you're not going to remain on the Alternate's List, please make sure you let the School of Nursing know! Best of luck to you at Molloy! :D

@Tbellx12 thanks.

Orientation won't be until the Thursday & Friday before the semester starts (i.e. at the very end of

August.)

During orientation they go over your schedule, which books you need, you learn stuff about the hospital & about the university. You get your student IDs too. You take a hospital tour. You meet you classmates and some of your professors.

Is it necessary to get books for all the classes?

thank you im definitely not giving up. i had a feeling i wouldnt get in because i had no volunteering or experience, just a 3.9 gpa. so grades definitely dont matter. so this summer i plan on volunteering and get my resume to be better. and no i didnt have an interview either

Are you thinking about volunteering at the stony brook hospital?

If so, I can give you my gown because I'm not using it anymore and it's 20 bucks for that.

You're in intro to nursing with philip tarantino right?

Is it necessary to get books for all the classes?

Absolutely not! For your first semester: Buy the med math book or find someone who will let you use theirs for the assignments. The book and supply package for P&A (ie fundamentals) is very very pricey, but useful. Just buy an old addition of that text book instead. Buy a stethoscope, a pen light and BP cuff online .... not at the bookstore. I wouldn't waste money on the clinical lab supply package either that they require. Don't buy the pathology text either .... no need for it. You can buy the nursing theory text, but buy an old cheap addition. Save your money. The text books are hardly used and hardly necessary. ☺️

Did you guys use the henke's med math ir taylors for fundamentals by any chance?

I was thinking about it but my friend who has been trying to volunteer said that the people kept telling her they had no open spots on their floors so I wasn't sure if I would be able too. I should probably just go there myself and see instead haha. And yess I am in his class on Thursdays

Henke's yes. But we use Potter & Perry for fundies.

Alright, thanks for the information. Are powerpoints enough to do well on the tests or should we buy the textbooks ?

IN REPLY TO BLUE-MOON.... I would apply to malloy but accept wait list at SBU. Cost of Malloy is very high. Can't hurt to accept wait list and pursue other places. Good luck. I wanted to go to SBU but was also accepted into suffolks LPN TO RN program. So even though I will not be in class with you all...I will see you at the State boards.
