Hello guys~ I m going to apply Stony brook nursing for 2015 Fall.

Is there anyone also applying?

I want to share information ^^

Hi guys! I'm new to this site and I have a few questions. I applied to the Basic Baccalaureate Nursing Program at Stony Brook for the Fall 2016 semester. I just scheduled my interview appointment and I was wondering how the writing and math exams will be. I'm more so concerned about the math aspect. What kind of questions should I expect and what should I be brushing up on? Thanks guys.

Hey! I am in the program now. The math test is a lot of algebra that you most likely haven't seen in a while (long division, decimal points, fractions) things along those lines. The essay is relatively simple if you're a decent writer. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Awesome! I hope I can say I'm in the program next year too! As far as brushing up this ancient math skills, what do you recommend? Just going online and doing some algebra problems haha? The writing isn't much of a concern for me. How do you like the program so far, and how was the interview (questions, what should I look out for, etc.)? THANKS!

You need to know basic math. So decimals and fractions (multiplying, dividing, adding and subtracting all of these), long division, multiplication, and basic algebra (2x + 6 = 10, what's x). That's basically it. If you can find a med math book for nurses (don't spend money, find something old and free online) the first chapter or so will be basic math. That's what they want you to be able to do. Nothing nursing related, just basic math foundation.

Hey guys, just a quick question. I would imagine the interview is a necessity for acceptance into the program based on prior posts. There have been limited posts on the fall 2016 basic program. I got very limited info when I contacted the school directly. So I was just wondering as to see if many people got interviews and what not. Thanks.

You do need an interview in order to be accepted into the program. I am not sure what their time table is this year but our interviews were done by this time last year. I heard I was accepted by mid April. I know some interviews were held because our professors were in and out of them about a month ago. Just be aware they send out acceptance notices first, then waitlist notices, THEN rejection. Its a long wait and it can be daunting but just be patient. You can always reapply next year too if you don't make it this time!

How can you apply without finishing perquisites ?

Hey, does that mean you went elsewhere for classes ?

Can you tell me what type of questions are on the math placement exam?

Hey guys I know this really late to this thread, but this was the one that I came across and I figured I would try. I'm trying to find a good BSN program and I know Stony Brook has a great, but competitive program. I looked online as to what prerequisite work they want but could an actual person who has been there answer that question for me!? I look to apply, I obviously can't apply yet because I'm still finishing the prerequisite work. Would you guys suggest that I take the general ed course work for the nursing program at suffolk so it's cheaper? What exactly along with those classes and scoring a C or better, do I need to have a good chance of getting in?
